I'd be interested in this as well. A backup of an original disk is no problem but I've never been able to copy the copy.

You have to use good media burned a the "correct" speed. If you use crap and burn fast there are errors on your write that will make reading difficult. Your dvd player might read it but your drive in your computer is more sensitive. Hope this helps. You can test how well you are burning.

Thanks, but the burning speed can't be an issue as I have always burned at 4x and used good media, too. I'll probably never know what it was but all seems fine now. Incidentally, thanks for the link to the guide by bbmayo. An excellently written guide that I have used in the past before support for DVD Decryptor ceased.

Thanks, it was so long ago that it last failed, I can't really remember what the issue was but I'd pretty well chock it up to me. Now, all is fine.

I use Nero to do backups of backups. I don't do the "on the fly" which is disk to disk, but let Nero rip the backup and mount the image on the HDD and then let it burn. It is only temporary and the file is automatically deleted when done. This makes for less errors. Just my two cents :)

New: Added "AnyDVD Ripper". This little tool repairs defective DVDs
while copying them to your harddisk. It can be started from the menu of the AnyDVD fox icon.It is identical to FixVTS (http://www.videohelp.com/~FixVTS/) but instead
of fixing problems "in place" it copies the files to your harddisk directly
from the source DVD. It fixes the problems while the files are copied.
Some DVDs which have severe mastering defects e.g.,
