Hi,
I have used magic switch pro/magic tools etc for gearing ps2 up for using with swap magic.I have 2 slimline ps2s in the house.I didnt like the idea of having to leave the lid open whilst they were used.I fit part a and part b of magic tools mk 2.I know they are perfectly in place,so dont need any help with those.I opened both ps2s and glued down the switches (where part c would normally go).Have put them both back together and they will both switch on (green light) but neither of them will spin disks.I can hear the fan going, but definately no disk spin with the lid open or closed.I have even removed part a and part b and tried to run an original game, with lid opened and closed, and still there is nothing happening.I know that both ps2s worked perfectly before i opened them.Any help would be most appreciated.dont like the idea of having to tell the kids that i have single handedly nailed both their ps2s :(

hi,thanks for the tip.i have checked all ribbon cables on both ps2s and they all seem to be intact.just really odd that it has happened on both of them.is it possible that somehow the glue has caused some sort of reaction within the switch itself?they both still give green light when switched on,but there is no motor running on both of them.i have read about them having fuses in them, but i have no idea where to locate these.any more input on this would be most helpful,as i am pretty much on my way to the shop to fork out for another 2 ps2s for the kids. :(

By switch do you mean the one that senses wheather the lid is open or closed? is this the one you glued? if so, then theres a possibility that it is broken, and staying "open."

It is the lid switch that i am referring to.the switch is definately glued to act as if the lid was closed.Im not sure if the switch can be pushed in too far to effectively give it a dead signal if too far down.doesnt seem like anyone on these forums actually has an answer for this,so i might just as well take the switch off totally and solder the four points into one.i have heard that it will work,so will give it a go and post the results here.thanks to all that have helped me on this :)

your supposed to stick both switches down right?. the one at the front of the lid and the on at the very back(the browish switch), if just ones stuck down then nothing will work because it thinks the lids open.

that's right, you have to glue both of them, if not the dvd drive thinks the lid is open and won't spin the disk

Sorry guys..guess that ur not quite sure what im asking.i know how to use swap disks and have used magic keys 2 and switch pro before.i am not asking how to use the tools.im trying to find out what has happened with the back lid switch.i dont know if they have blown fuses,or glue has somehow done something to them.i have used glue before and it was fine.i didnt glue anywhere exept one drop on top of the switch whilst holding it down.the whole point of the exercise was so that the lid could be closed as they cannot be closed using the magic tools.they do produce a tool "d" which is a sort of cap to go over this switch.you cannot buy them on their own,(unless someone knows different)but you can buy them with pro switch.trouble is that pro switch are not that clever,so i used the magic keys 2,as they are metal and generally do a better job :) would like to have comment from someone who has worked on fuses on the ps2,thanks to all that have commented tho :)

solder the pads on the switch like you said you would, before looking into blown fuses.

could you also solder the front switch? if so would you solder all 4 points just as the other switch?

ok i have the same problem...and i finally found a forum that could help. i just need to know how exactly you soldered them back together?

i took off that part that i glued and am stuck with 4 points...so i just solder them to all connect to each other?

i have no experience with soldering and have never used one. but i need my ps2 to work again. thanks for any future help. im relieved that this can actually be fixed

@joshfarol If you've never used a soldering iron before I'd suggest you get someone to do it, its not worth taking the risk.

Also, don't post your email address, its against the forum rules. And don't post multiple replies, use the edit function instead... you are not off to a good start :(

I used sellotape, IMHO it's the best way. It is very effective, yet very easy to remove ;)
