I have been using smart ripper 2.41 and it works great but recently I received 6 Thin Man movies on 2 DVDs. I tried using smart ripper and it would not unlock the vob files. I have tried using some other programs but none are successful. Can anyone give me a foolproof method for ripping these vob files? Help

try playing the movie in your computer and then trying to get the vob files sometimes that helps

Thats the first thing I tried. I did it a number of times but nothing seems to work. Are there any surefire programs or possibly another method I could use to rip these vob files?

Have you tried going back and ripping another dvd to see if the problem only exists with these dvd's?

Yes, Smart Ripper still works fine. Is it possible to some how block a ripper from ripping these files?

Smartripper and other rippers use codes to decrypt a dvd. Obviously it would be possible to create new codes however I would think your player would not play the movies then. I'm not sure of the cause here.

I've had the same problem with

That is 2 it's failed to do out of about 60,not a bad ratio but I too am left frustrated because I want to back up the 2 films mentioned above.

I've not tried DVD Decrypter as of yet...that's next on the agenda!

I have been able to rip everyting with my sony 500. and DVD Decrypter. today I recieved my Lite-On Drive. Get a message with the movie Independence Day that it can not unlock the files. the sony can but the Lite-On can not. updated Decrypter to the new version that just came out and it took some time but it did crack the code!
