Ok yesterday i downloaded a file and when it was completed it stayed as a .dat file instead of changing to a .avi file like it was s'pose to can anyone help me with this problem?

Oh,
btw i tryed opening it in virtualdub and it gave me this error
"A Pentium Pro instruction not supported by the CPU was executed in module 'DIVX'...
...while attempting codec negotiation: fccHandler=0x78766964, biCompression=0x58564944 (VideoSource.cpp:571)."
any help will be greatly apreciated =)

i suppose you changed the .dat to .avi? anyway use avipreview to open the file

I had a similar problem yesterday with an mp3 file. The download completed but it remained a dat file.

Is there a tool out there I can use to convert dat to mp3?
