Okay, so I have a ps2 that suffers from the age old problem of the lens adjustment going out and no longer being able to read games. Howver, Final Fantasy XI doesn't need a CD to play, so I ordered a hdd and the copy (unfortunately the copy didn't come installed for some reason). I borrowed another ps2, formatted, installed PlayOnline & FFXI, removed the hdd and put it in my ps2. however playonline refused to boot. I assume this is either because the HDD config file registers the ps2 it's installed on, or you need to reset the hdd settings via the hdd utility disc. however, that's not possible. does any1 know a way to edit this data from the memory card or the hdd data so it will work with my ps2, or is it a possibility there's some sort bios-like update from the hdd disc that makes it ocmpatible w/ the ps2? I'm sick of manually adjusting my lense notch by notch and hoping it works >.<. Please help!! Thank you.

edit: or possibly connect an external/internal pc dvd drive to ps2 for temporary measures?

EDIT: we tried to run it on a 3rd comp, no dice, so the BIOS-like theory is not the option... the data edit and the external DVD-ROM seem to both still be valid.
