Here is what I want to do:

I want to record from TV then edit.
I want to record from an X Box 360 and Edit.
I want to transfer from a Mini DV camcorder and edit.

I will probably at times be putting all 3 types together and I want to be able to put titles, draw on the video, and perhaps add graphics.

Then I will be making video to put on the internet AND burn to DVD.

I am currently getting ready to buy a system and want to make sure I have what I need.
Question 1: What Video Editing / Capture device should I get?
canopus ADVC300 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814144209)?
VisionTek VTK-THMCE550P (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814129051)?
Hauppauge, if so what model?

What video editing software should I look at for what I am looking to do?
Vegas?
Pinnacle Studio?
Canopus Edius?
Other?

And will the program help me compress for Internet and write to DVD?

And Last question what DVD Writer would you suggest or are we getting to a point where as long as the name brand is good it's virtually the same? How about the lite Scribe technology, worth it?

Any other suggestions or insight would be appreciated - I have been tossing around this purchase since last May on and off again and I have decided to bite the bullet.

Here are the major components of the rest of the system I will be buying in case that helps.

MD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM
Western Digital Raptor 150GB (OS and Programs)
2 Seagate Barracuda 7200 300GB 7200 RPM 8M Cache (1st raw video, 2nd edited video)
SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900XTX

Thanks ahead of time!!!

Capture device

DVD Burner

You will need to use a Cable Box or Reciever and Connect it to the ADVC-300 to capture TV Signals.....

Thank You!!

Any other options on the Canopus ADVC300?

I thought because I am all digital to start with that one of the internal $100 cards might work.

thanks,

What do you Mean your all Digital to Start with??

The only Digital Source you Mentioned was your DV Camcorder, Your TV and XBox are Both Analogue.....

If your DV Camcorder has Analogue Passthrough then you don"t need any Capture card as you can Transfer your TV or XBoX or VHS Tapes through your DV Camcorder and to your PC with your DV Camcorder acting as a Analogue Digital Converter Much Like the Canopus ADVC....

You could use the VisionTek card but it is an Hardware Mpeg encoder Card so if you want to do any editing you couldn"t do it with most Programs because most Programs will Re-encode your Files when editing which Lowers the Quality and Takes a Long Time to Render....
Also Hardware encoders Cards do not have a Very wide Range of Software support....

One Good editing program that does work With Hardware Encoder Cards and Can edit Mpeg files without re-encodeing them (When useing "Smart Rendering") is "MagiX Movie Edit Pro" and it is also an Very Full Featured editor and Has DVD Authoring Features and is Only about $50.....

Cheers
