I own a memorex 16x dvd burner and use 16x memorex discs. I burn using xcopy gold w/ anydvd in the background and do not have spyware running. Recently I have been problems where the movies freeze. It's pretty much hit or miss which movies I have problems with. For instance, I burned The Fog twice and both copies, though burned successfully, froze throughout the movie. Should I invest in a new burner, new discs or start using different software. For a while my burner and the discs were working fine on my dvd player, but sometimes they won't play on other's players, or they'll freeze. Any suggestions?

Easy way to break $ony new encryption.
Also the newest version of AnyDVD can do it as well (version
5.7.3.1 or higher)
combined with DVD shrink and/or DVD decrypter.

I dont like Memorex Media at all (since they are primarily
cmc manufactured.)
But I doubt your media is the problem in this case.
Its the new $ony Arcoss protection thats causing your problems.

As for media I try to stay with Verbatim or Fujifilm mainly.

Good luck

I'm leaning more towards your media being the problem and possibly burn speed. Burning at high speeds can cause problems w/ burn errors or playback problems. As jizmak pointed out memerox usually uses some poor quality manufacturers.
Make sure your firmware is up to date and I would burn no faster than 4x w/ memerox. Actually I'd throw them out & buy Taiyo Yuden or Verbatims!

Are your backups freezing at the end or in thie middle some were if your having issues at the end of the movie customize your capasity to 4200 the outer edge is were the dye is not even. Like the senior members said stay away from memorex, imation, even HP. Verbatim i found is the best at 4x or slower.

You can get away with 8x on Verbs. A lot of the guys on these boards will tell you to do the half-rule. If you got a 16x burner, burn at 8x. 8x burner, burn at 4x. I tried 16x Verbs at 16x and had no problems. But I normally stick with 8x speeds.
