details, we need details. describe the sound. is it the laser clicking/grinding noise?? could be a great number of things, without more details it's just a stab in the dark.

I've seen the same question asked when the end result was the user had placed stickers all over his disks and caused the disk to be out of balance when they spin up........you'd be surprised...

The PS2 makes ticking sounds and grinding sounds. The game freezes when this happens.

sounds like the laser is trying to focus. either you have bad media which can be you used poor quality, the disk is very dirty or scratched. it could be the laser is going out as well.

My disc is not scrached. It must be the laser. I heard people talk about cleaning the laser but how do you do that?

I'll assume you mean a fat console not a V1 (japan)

flip it upside down, remove the 8 screw covers and the screws. flip it back upright and carefully lift the top off being careful with the reset/eject switch cable, just lay the top to the side with the reset switch still connected.

there are 4 very tiny black screws in the top of the CD/DVD drive, remove then and lift the cover off, the laser will now be exposed, clean the lens and reassemble in reverse.

if its a fat ps2 you hav to open the top by voiding your warenty on the back right side thes a sticker riping that means you lose your warrenty unscrew the bottom when its open youl c a blac cover unscew that(recomended phillips scerwdriver)when thats open eject your disc tray youll c the lens clean it with a Qtip if that dosent work than your lens needs ajusting when you eject the tray youll c a white round thing near the back turn it clockwise until the game works
