@zest, I believe that many at AD would agree about the high quality that Copy 3 (now Copy 4) can produce, the issues have been within the re-authoring (Movie only or Customize) capabilities. Have you found that Copy 4 has improved upon the critical issues that were reported to Intervideo? I have Copy 3 and enjoyed the quality just didn't like how it handled the re-authoring. Your input on Copy 4 might provide insight for those who wish to upgrade.

@MovieDud

Tried DVD Copy 4 and found it has the same issues as 3, there is just more support for dl that has been added. I have not been able to get this program to run correctly on two computers now, it will do the whole movie but as soon as I start to customize/movie only I have a 50/50 chance of making coasters. If you have the 3 I would not upgrade unless you plan on if you want to rip to iso files because that is where the difference is it only did DVD files before. The quallity is good but RB is better.

I'm in total agreement with you arniebear...I'm just mystified at Intervideo not correcting something that is so obvious and makes a great product an ineffective product, with no user friendliness or consistency. I still do not have as many problems with Copy 3 as others have had, and actually did three Warner Bros. movies (which a couple in my past had caused problems with Intercopy 3) and they (movie only on two and customize on one) worked perfectly. The cool thing is that since that latest version of Rebuilder Pro 1.0.2 that all the projects are movie very fast at encoding and renuilding. I did the latest Star Wars in 130 minutes and that includes building an Iso image. Last night a 120 minute movie with DTS which on Recode 2 brought the compression down to 75%, yet Rebuilder did that in 110 miuntes (under two hours) and the quality cannot be beat by any other program. I'm ususally using two programs Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic and Recode 2. Have a great day my friend and happy burning.

IC3 and IC4 have the same problems: one never knows what audio one's going to get, under sizing, pixelation and others. same garbage, too bad, great picture quality.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I wish they would get some consistency to their product, I have tried this program three times on trial and still get same results. I was thinking of buying it but not with all the baggage it comes with. I will stick with the tried and true products. RB is the king of products but that is an encoder. If CloneDVD is a much more consistent product with great reauthoring for half the price of Intervideo, and Recode is one of my favorites and the new Nero 7 Recode is really fast.

i get around intervideos problems by using dvdremake to edit and i burn with dvdtocopy, so in short i just use the program for its main strength and avoid the weaknesses
however i do not suggest you buy this , you would be much better off spending the money on dvdremake, now thats a great program that deserves a few more threads

i have IC3,i could use vobblanker first but in my opinion, the difference in quality between IC3 and others like shrink, recode2, and even DVD2One is not that much to bother using two programs. so IC3 is off my hard drive for good.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I agree using two programs is not a bother for me either. I like to rip to my HDD and then choose what program I think will do the best job.

@arniebear. well i always ripp to HD first, what meant to say was, that, the difference in output quality between IC3 or IC4 and programs like shrink, recode2, clonedvd2 and DVD2One is not that much to bother using three programs; decrypter/ vobblanker/IC3 or IC4. i'll stick to decrypter/and either shrink,recode2 clonedvd2 or dvd2one(i have them all). bye bye IC3.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

One of the nice features that I enjoy from Recode 2 and Shrink is the ability to be able to take away with more precision the credits...Copy 3 can remove credits as long as the movie and credits are not intermingled, the same with CloneDVD 2...the scissors app is great except when the movie and credits are on the same chapter...Not knocking either program...personally I enjoy them all, but I strictly work with Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic, Recode 2, CloneDVD 2, and Copy3. I have heard it said many times and agree that it comes down to the eye of the beholder of which program is the best. On my 16X9 HDTV using THX approved Component cables connected to Denon 2200 and a Sony full Progressive...Rebuidler is still hard to beat, especially with large compression situations, yet I have found that Recode 2 (using the deep analysis and other features) produces a great picture as well. Probably the easiest combos to use is CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD running in the background. I have AnyDVD running in the background all the time and never run into any issues using shrink or Recode 2.

I saw CloneDVD, AnyDVD and clonecd for $25 on ebay. Seller claims hes a reseller for Slysoft and has a almost perfect feedback. I'll buy since it sounds like a good deal and he/she accepts paypal. I would like to hear peoples opinion.

@MovieDud

I agree on the precision part of Recode, I used it for Bewitched and just removed the 3 second blank before Lady Liberty and it did it perfectly. Movie has no pause at the beginning it starts right at the Columbia logo.

Before you buy I would suggest you contact http://www.slysoft.com and see if they think that this is a bonified distributer of their product.

Sounds iffy to me.

I tried IC3 a few months ago after reading how good the quality was suppose to be. I burned the same movie, edited the same way with IC3, Shrink/Nero, and my main choice of Clonedvd/Anydvd. On my wide screen projection set I saw no difference in quality that justified the claims that IC3 was the best. Maybe my eyes are getting bad but it just wasn't there. Maybe its just that I'm not as picky as other people. I also didn't like how it works. I still end up back with Clonedvd/Anydvd as always. My dvd backups are just that,BACKUPS. I don't expect them to be perfect but I do want good quality without pixelation and CloneDVD does do that for me even up to 50% compression if needed. Just my opinion.

@Jerry746

Glad to know it is not just me who is not finding a whole lot of reason to go with Intervideo, I agree on quality my 52inch did not show a whole lot of difference.

@arniebear, I'm with ya my friend about how hard it is to discern the quality difference regarding Copy3...I still appreciate you opening my eyes to Recode 2...Love it and the quality is great. Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic still gets the nod of excellence when making back-ups, yet I'm using Recode2 a tremendous amount as well.
Have a good day.

p.s. Is Recode 2 from Nero version 7 better than Recode 2 from version 6?

It is basically the same program on 7, but there is a little difference in speed I am noticing that it is faster. Right now though I have just did a quick reformat of my comp and removed Nero 7, had some problems with using XP CD Writing Wizard, which is Roxio and not sure if 7 caused the problem so I am going back to square one to trace done the problem.

@zest, Here is some of the info you asked for. My main tv is a JVC 57 inch. Can't remember the exact model and I don't feel like moving it out to check. Media I use is mostly Ritek -R either the 4x or 8x but burned at 4x only. Burner drive is a Pioneer 106D. Players are a Sony and a JVC. I try to keep compression at 70% or higher but when it drops below that I burn at 2x. Like I stated before I usually use the latest CloneDVD 2 and Anydvd.

Got two quick questions bout clone dvd2. Can it handle a full copy to a dual layer disc or should I use AnyDVD and img burn to copy it since img burn is updated compared to decryptor? Basically a 1-1 copy.

Also I read in the guide on afterdawn to use Nero after clone was done transcoding, but in the new version it lists my burner. So does clone have its own burn engine or does it feed off of Nero like shrink and decryptor does?

CloneDvd 2 does have it's own burn engine, which is also adjustable on the speed. I guess you could just save the finished files to HD and then burn with Nero, but in my own experience this is not necessary unless you want to Booktype, which I do with all +R media.
