hi, i just joined because i met that spyfalcon. your thread has been tremendously helpful. my pop-ups are gone, everything seems back to normal, and the end of my C:smitrem.txt file says "clean :)". i do have a question though, which is: am i done?

i am a little afraid to use HjT [knowing little about what goes on behind the scenes on my pc], but a second-opinion program on the web told me that i still had around 60 pieces of spyware and a handful of hackers and trackers on my machine. is it necessary to scrub all of this? i'm including my C:smitrem file. any advice would be much appreciated. as is, thank you for your conversation and knowledge.

Heh, nevermind that post. I installed a new Antivirus and updated my Windows (i had been unable to do so in the past couple months), and i also installed Ewido as recommended here. I did full system scans and at least the pop ups and stuff have ceased to happen, and a lot of adware objects (plus a few virii) were found and gotten rid of.

Just in case, here are both HjT and SmitFraudFix latest logs:

Hi again.

At first, remove the old version of SmitfraudFix (2.47) and download the latest version (2.48) from here -> http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Unzip it (folder named SmitFraudFix) to your desktop.

Restart your computer to the safemode and choose your normal user account -> http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

When in safemode, open SmitfraudFix folder and doubleclick the file smitfraudfix.cmd
Choose option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and pressing "Enter" in order to remove the infected files.

You are asked: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove your desktop wallpaper and the infected registry keys.

The tool checks if wininet.dll file is infected. You might be asked to replace the infected .dll (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool might have to restart your computer; if it won't do it, restart your computer back to normal mode.
A textfile will appear after the cleaning process, copy this file and paste it to here.

Tha log is saved to your local diskdrive, usually C:\rapport.txt.

Warning : Running option 2 in a clean computer will delete your desktop wallpaper.

Post the contents of C:\rapport.txt to here.

Add another name to the list of spyware that is jacking up peoples computers... Fresh from the makers of SpyFalcon, SpySheriff, and SpywareQuake comes Brave Sentry. This is the same old game with a new face... It offers a free scan, then when you install it it detects a bunch of false positives. If you try to remove it it won't go away until you pay. Anyone who has installed this on their system, I would suggest you Remove it ASAP!
