people say if you keep the ps2 on for 5 hours it shows the tutorial thing and works perfectly if not that then put in playstation controller when you start the game and when it says to put in a ps2 controller do so and the game should work.

It's not simply done!

You can't just blindly follow what people say, you have to expiriment with different medium, burn speeds and even burn programs to achive best results.

Every game has its own way of reading data from a medium. Some games work perfectly on 8x speed fujifilm and some need to be burned on 2x. Even some games run the best on princo DVD-R.

About "Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria"

Made 2 coasters, and 1 perfect burn.

1st disk was a Fujifilm DVD-R at 4x speed, burned with Image burn.
Result: Skipping FMV, voices laggy and long loading times.

2nd disk was Princo DVD-R at 2x speed, burned with Image burn.
Result: no more skipping in FMV, voices still laggy and long loading times.

3rd disk, again a Fujifilm DVD-R at 2x, burned with Nero (I chose Nero , because Imageburn sometimes exceeds 2x writing speed, i dunno why)
Result: no more skipping in FMV, voices are synch and not laggy, loading times are good, everything is fine.

I am in chapter 2, with no problems so far.

It's a shame that the ps2-lens is very picky and spoiled like a princess. There's no other way than expirimenting with your own burner, media, burning speeds and burn programs.

Okay I've discovered a problem in my copy. I've burnt using SONY DVD-R at x6. It worked perfectly with Swap Magic 3.6 on Slimline, but in chapter 3, in the duengon straight after the village of Corriander, the games goes a bit whack. The problems are as follows: when in start of battle the read "READING DISC" and cut-scenes gets a bit laggy. MAJOR problem is when I get into battle my Slimline PS2 starts making crunching noises while having "READING DISC". I checked it out and the laser was trying to read the very last end of the disc (the outer rim), but failing to read it. I've burnt it multiple times at differnt speeds using the same media. My ps2 is still new, so is there anyway I could fix this?

EDIT:
Don't worry fixed it.

Not quite true. While the quality of various media varies as manufacturing methods change, and between batches and individual manufacturing plants, the basic rebuild process either works or it doesn't work.

If someone doesn't get it to work, it may be their own fault. However if it does work, they've verified that the process itself is in fact sound.

Some things work, some don't. That doesn't change unless a particular method doesn't take a certain aspect into account. Experimenting with different methods and media doesn't change reality.

I DO NOT rate Taiyo Yuden at all.
Not true at all! I think you probably had some fake Taiyo Yudens, but to understand the media test I'm going to refer to: First of all, every laser-recorded CD or DVD has errors on it. However, the data is written in an algorithm that allows extrapolation of the corrupt data based on the data before and after the errors.

This means that the errors can basically be ignored if the drive/firmware/software are all fast enough to correct the errors without falling behind the rest of the system or sofware that requests the data.

If there are so many errors that the drive needs to re-read many times, THIS is what actually causes stuttering and LONG load times or disc read errors on poor media or high-speed burns! (other than human error when doing the copy or rebuild process.

So finally... According to an extremely in-depth analysis of the recoverable recording errors on DVD-R media using PS2 games as the recorded data and using over a hundred of each type of disc from different batches of each brand and using several different burners, Taiyo Yuden came out on top, well above any Riteks. This was a very extensive, well planned, and carefully executed study!

The only problem with TY is that you can end up with counterfeit blanks if you don't know who you're buying from, but of course you have the same counterfeiting issues with any well-touted media including G05. The bottom line is that according to current manufacturing processes, Taiyo Yuden still produces a higher qualitiy -R blank. I can't speak for +R though.

As for burning speed, slower is better. I can get my burner to go down to 2x, and it does give better burns that at 4x. I have verified this with a disc analyzer similar to the one used for the above test.

Need I say more? I'll explain the specifics... The data on a CD/DVD/BluRay or any optical disc is in a spiral sort of like vinyl records, and there is some eccentricity to it, sort of a "wobble" that the lens has to track. The normal DVD read speed of the PS2 drive is 4x, and CD is something like 24x.

Some say burn at that speed because the natural eccentricity of the burn will match the reader. That's not quite true. While it does help to some extent, the benefit of slower recording outweighs this. The result is that recording at a slower speed than 4x generally produces the least eccentricity or "wobble" in the track, even less that burning at 4x DVD speed.

And a slower speed always, always, produces fewer physical write errors (see above). Always ;)

Nice arguments, but thats not entirely true anymore, espcially with most modern burners. These days data is written more accurately at faster speeds than slower burning speed due to the different maufacturing of high speed writers. Its quite an acceptable rate to burn at 4x - 8x or even 12x these days with new burners on the market. However, even so, if your burner isn't quite as new as you thought, then slower is better.

Of course DVD media is another factor, but who cares... I burn SONY DVD-Rs with a SONY DVD 18x Writer at 4x speed. Works dandy, but this game in general has some problems... Works fine... but problems... heh.
