oh man guys! that whole dma mode thing --frikkin supercharged my ripping and burning! i'm getting them all done in less than 20 minutes! so what exactly is the dma mode?? why does it make such a difference?
i got all the updates as well but i'm still having issues with mi3 and now house of flying daggers keeps shutting dvdfab down. (hmmm fix one problem find another, this is starting to sound like my car)

For repeated DMA errors. Windows XP will turn off DMA mode for a device after encountering certain errors during data transfer operations. If more that six DMA transfer timeouts occur, Windows will turn off DMA and use only PIO mode on that device.
In this case, the user cannot turn on DMA for this device. The only option for the user who wants to enable DMA mode is to uninstall and reinstall the device.
Windows XP downgrades the Ultra DMA transfer mode after receiving more than six CRC errors. Whenever possible, the operating system will step down one UDMA mode at a time (from UDMA mode 4 to UDMA mode 3, and so on).
As to House of Flying Daggers, try and use just DVD Shrink for 'movie only', and DVD Decrypter also. if still not working try reinstalling an older version of DVDFab Decrypter..

that being said i've never had the problem myself, maybe because my trusty main ripping drive is in a USB2.0 enclosure and DMA isn't relevant for USB devices.

DMA & PIO are your data transfer rate modes. PIO (program input/output) is much slower than DMA (direct memory access).

Never ran into yet either reverting to PIO w/ my internal drives and I've ripped some pretty scratched discs. Guess it also depends on how good the drive is reading thru the bad spots.
