Well this does put a damper on things.
I was so glad to finally get the Wiikey update to play my imports and now this had to happen. My question is, will it play if it's the real game disc or does it just go and sniff out if you have a mod chip and refuses game play for SMG?
Damn it Nintendo, I wouldn't even be worried about this if you would have just made you console REGION FREE! Is that so much to ask? Just let me buy games overseas and play them at home. N is really starting to piss me off...

Quote: [07.10.29] Update on Super Mario Galaxy Issue
In addition to the announcement made earlier today about Super Mario Galaxy, we are pleased to confirm that we have now identified the copy protection method responsible and created a fix.
In order to guarantee stability, we have had to make a fairly major change to the way the code works. While all tests have proven positive, the challenge now is to create a delivery system to allow existing Wiikeys to be updated.
As ever, we appreciate your patience and support while we do this.

Here I am all packed and ready to go but I have to wait for my "ticket." Hopefully, WiiKey comes through sooner than later! :)

Wiikey took so long to make the simple Audiofix update (which in the end resulted in leaked betas being used for the update) that people had been complaining for months over a feature that should have been implemented from release day (according to the website product specs).
Wonder how long it will take this update to get out to the public...
Let the waiting begin!

Maybe the protection will be different from one disc to the next and will require special boot discs for each protection method. That would royally suck.

I was thinking the same thing but I doubt 3rd parties would do that, maybe it's only a nintendo mandated thing. When's the next nintendo release? Is it Mario and Sonic at olympic games?

This coming from the same wiikey team that has the definition of "soon" being MONTHS?
Good start. Hope they can do it FASTER then the last update.

well as stated on other forums the problem has something to do with the ram size. in response to if this will change from game to game i seriously doubt it. I'm guessing they are adding an auto detect script in the code so this problem can be avoided in the future for ALL games.

i was really impressed with the cyclowiz quick response to the incompatibility with SMG. I'm seriously considering switching out my wiikey since they can't give any definite info on when they will release a firmware patch. What if other games do this or another type of protection. I've been a big advocate of wiikey but I'm starting to think the grass might be greener on the cyclowiz side of the fence

im planning on buying the original not matter what but if i have trouble with the wiikey then it'll be gone for good, i heard people playing SMG with another chip, i think wiikey is getting old and the wiikey people are very slow.

well for me it's all about customer service. I worked for a company for 10 years that did backflips for their customers and gave them the best possible warranties on their products so I know all about customer service. It's very obvious to me that the wiikey team don't give a damn about their customers. They post little "updates" on their homepage hoping to calm down the complainers and then they go for months without updates. I'm sure that we won't see an update from them for a long time. The cyclowiz team came out with an update in something like a day after their chip was reported not working. That is very impressive to me! I've already ordered a replacement cyclowiz for my wiikey. They just lost a very loyal customer. I doubt that they care in the least. (They're too busy playing SMG with their cyclowiz modded wii's)
