I mostly live at home, except when my wife tells me not to. ;)
Actually I'm in Des Moines, Iowa in the US and I can't wait until my oldest daughter (who lives with my ex) is old enough that I can go somewhere else.

Sweeeeeet :) Finally the possibility of talking to people about computers in real life. All my friends give me a blank stare if I get too technical when I start rattling on about computers - I'm the only computer geek out of the lot of us.
My killer sig came courtesy of bb "El Jefe" mayo.

Boy that sounds familar, I am not only techy geek in my crowd but also the only science guy. So I rarely rattle off work or fun computer stuff to them. But now that my one friend group has turned into online gammers, they are souping up and overclocking to get the online edge.

What started it was Warcraft 3, but now I am not too sure what they are playing.
I wouldn`t be too surprised if there were alot of us here that are the only computer people in our crowds.

In my case most of my friends are also geeks. That's pretty common here in Des Moines, since despite being in the middle of nowhere, we're the second biggest insurance city in the US and even had a huge number of unemployed IT workers during the tech boom of the late 90's. That was after many companies moved operations in because it's cheaper to run an IT operation here. Needless to say it's a city with a lot of geeks.

It's situations like your andmerr, where you force the learning curve...Put a floppy in their drives so they get a boot error...take a screenshot of their desktop and use it as a wallpaper, then hide all the icons...You should think of yourself not as some prankster, but as a saviour, for without the necesary computer skills these people will be awash in the computercentric world... I believe your mission is clear, force these people to have some computer apptitude, while laughing incessently during the process.
This is an amazingly imformative site with many places to find information and help. Please support it.

Somebody called in to a radio show I used to listen to in the morning and mentioned doing something like this. They took a screen shot of the person's desktop and made it the wallpaper and then deleted all the icons. For some reason none of the shortcuts worked after that.
I also have a friend who uses a screensaver that looks just like a Windows NT/2000/XP memory dump screen.

Atlanta, Ga where the weather sucks the traffic REALLY sucks, but the people are friendly (unless you are in the traffic and then those people suck too). Are there any more Georgia boys or girls on here? I doubt it, rednecks can't use computers.
As far as the tech thing goes...all of my friends and coworkers are severely technically declined. Even the IT guys at my office give me funny looks when I start talking about some stuff. I am so alone! Ok, I am going to go cry in a corner now.

Nahh your not alone.. I too live in Atlanta.. I totally agree with you on the traffic situation and people here.. Being I have gotten into a few fights myself.. My friend had a gun pulled on him...All in traffic! Atlanta is full of road rage!! I also get that look from most of my friends too.. They just dont "get it" when it comes to anything to do with computers..

Hi Matt,
It is actually cool to see another Georgia boy on the net, I guess rednecks can use computers. LOL! It is sad that i have actually had to explain and teach a couple of the guys at the office how to use their Mp3 players.

That is pretty sad.. I mean how long has our society been pushing a play button? lol.. Yeah there are some rednecks that know computers.. As we speak I am watching HDTV streamed to my PC through a 1394 connection which is pretty cool.. So are you in downtown Atlanta? I am in cobb/cherokee myself..

I work downtown and have to make that God awful commute everyday. Well, until the end of this month, then I get to start working from home and only driving into Hell when it is absolute necessary. I actually live in Hall County off of Lanier.
