I just moved and am in the process of ordering cable and one of the things I wanted the ability to record tv and to put it on dvd's. I see that TiVo is charging something like $13 a month which seems to be a bit much IMO. I want to record things like football games or tv shows like boston legal but I haven't venturing into DVD recording yet.

I have seen threads of people complaining of trying to copy tv shows and having copyright errors. Is this just for movies off channels like HBO or does this affect football games and channels like NBC/ABC?

I've never had any problems at all copying from the TV straight to DVD. Now copying tapes to DVD is different. You'll need a GoDVD box to do that. But recording from the cable box should be no problem at all.
