If I have the means and want to spend the extra coin for DL media. Is this the best way to go about backing up dvds. In terms of ease of process, quality of picture. Also I have dvd decrypter(last edition) is there any other program i should get to help with the backup process. Thanks again
Dvd decrypter is what I would use to rip in read iso mode then you can use dvdd or imgburn to write the iso to your disc. You might need AnyDVD to break the encryptions on newer releases.
Like Mort and aabbccdd said, you first have to remove the Encryption/protection to be able to record. Once that's done, most software will deliver a good burn. Some programs have a problem with the layer break, such as the Nero 6. I hear they may have solved some of the problems and there is now Nero 7. ImgBurn is an updated version of the DVD Decryter burner software, still burns ISO. DVDFabDecrypter is a freeware app that has been successful in doing some of the newer movies with heavier protections. It works in File mode. Sometimes FixVTS and VobBlanker have had to be used on these later releases to make the ripped files compliant for burning. DVD Shrink can convert files to ISO if needed for the burner format. A quick check for compliance is opening a movie folder in Shrink to see if it does the quick analysis. Not 100%, but a good quick test. Shrink can be set to use DVD Decrypter or or Nero as a supported burner, so the burn will start automatically. Maybe more than you wanted to know at this point, but just having DVD Decrypter won't do the job in a lot of cases with the new releases.
