I have tried using shrink by changing the preferences to backup a 3 hour, 6GB disk which is succesful,but I am not able to burn using Nero,do I need a dual layer disk or is their any other way to do it,
any advice much appreciated.

Depending on what version of Nero you have and license key which enables/disables certain applications, you can use the Nero Recode 2 (if your license key activates this function) to reauthor the movie files and shrink them to fit on a single layer DVD (DVD-5). Nero recode 2 works only with files in a VIDEO_TS folder (the folder must contain .VOB, .ifo, .bup file extensions). From Nero smart start choose the Nero recode application on the left, choose DVD video audio and subtitles selection, import the video files, reauthor if needed, choose an output location/decice. If you choose a recorder, Nero will burn the files properly to disk.
