Playing DVD's from Hard drive

Ě know this is probly a question asked before but I can't seem to get a full answer anywhere.

I want to make a copy of my dvd's on my hard drive and then be able to play them directly from my hard drive using "windvd" or "Media Player" or any other software. I also have my PC connected to my TV using a S-Video cable.

What software can I use to make a copy of my DVD so I can then play it from my hard drive.

Hi Guys,

I used SmartRipper to create a backup of a DVD on my HDD. When I play it in PowerDVD, the film works fine, but only plays in German.

When I try to do a right-click to select different audio/subtitles, my Computer completely locks up and doesn't respond to anything anymore.

Maybe I did not copy the DVD correctly? I selected the 4 VOB files (film is split in 4 big chapters), but I do not know how to apply the audio tracks for different languages...

Can you help me out on this???

Did you rip All files or only Movie files.

When I playback (PowerDVD) a ripped movie (All files so whole DVD) it mostly starts with the extra's and the menu in all languages very very fast. Then the movie begins (normal speed) and once it was in German.
You can not change (in PowerDVD) the language or subtitles although they are all there.
You will see after burning it to a DVD+rw/-rw it will play fine, so first you see the menu and then you can choose language and subs.
It is not German afterall....

I ripped/authored/burnt xXx yesterday.
Movie Only
It came down to 3.8Gb without Menu & Extras

Which was nice

P.S. I've played ripped movies from HDD with or without ripping all files & I've not come across this german language problem either.

Guess I'm lucky !!

I have copied VOB files to my pc (windows XP) but when trying to play them from the hard drive WMP doesn't play the files properly, neither does PowerDVD.
The pictures are hardly existant and the audio skips like a screwed cd
I have dvd rom, so can play dvds from the disk.

Does my problem indicate that I don't have suitable decoders installed, or that the dvd contains files with copy protection, in which case I would need special software to copy the files again from the disk?
I copied the whole contents of the dvd just by using copy/paste to the computer, so does the problem lie there if that method is no good?

It is playing as though I need more suitable codecs, but I'm unsure

Just been talking to my brother in law about our chances of getting to Silverstone for this years British Grand Prix (all 3 days).

I digress , what you need to do Mike is decrypt/rip your .vob files to your HDD.

Smartripper or DVD Decrypter are 2 of the best.

Both free d/l...
