All of a sudden my Xbox won't boot games, I don't get any error messages, it just goes to the Dashboard like there is no game in the system.

The drive isn't spinning at all, I noted the position of the disk in the tray each time I turned the Xbox on or off and it never changes.

It does the same thing with the modchip turned on or off.

Could the modchip cause this or has my DVD drive just gone dead?

Thanks for any replies!

Your chip is ok. If you dvd drive won't spin, that means it is dead. IF you have game on hdd, try to load it to see if it work.

I don't have any games on the HDD. So I guess my next course of action would be to replace the DVD drive?

I checked the cables, that doesn't seem to be the problem.

If the DVD isn't spinning the disk at all, that could be the laser?

It's a new drive, but a Thompson. That has me a bit spooked since I've heard bad things about them.
