I recently bought a no solder modchip from www.modchip.ca, and long story short, when I tried to use it without having the disc eject tray ribbon cable connected, I fried my PS2 and paid $50 to repair it. Is it likely that if I try again that it will fry my v7 again? And has anyone ever got something refunded from www.modchip.ca (it says modchips can only be replaced, not refunded)? If not, is there a place where I can exchange it for a fliptop or a slidecard pro (the no solder, the fliptop, and the slidecard all cost about the same, none of 2 is more expenisve than the no solder modchip)?

did you get the swap magic discs with it? If so, you can just make yourself a slide card.

I do have the swap magic discs and I used the slide card before, it's just that I don't want to have that $30 (the modchip + shipping/handling) doing nothing. I want to either use it or exchange it for something like a fliptop or a better slide-card system (instead of a cut-up Dominick's card).

I see what you mean. I doubt you can exchange it anywhere, you should have gotten the fliptop in the first place, a lot of people have problems with those chips.

So do you think I should risk another $50 by trying to install it?

no, because if it blows up your ps2 again, you could have just gotten a real modchip for what you paid. I wouldn't risk it.

I actually sent a complaint to www.modchip.ca and the guy called me from Canada to IL, USA to say that I could return it. Im writing him a letter asking if I could get it exchanged for a fliptop, and if not, then a slidecard kit.

You should have got a swap magic if you wanted a no solder modchip? But if you wanted a modchip I would have sugessted a Crystal Chip homie. Sorry that happened to you, but it looks like you may have to get a new PS2.

wow 2IIpac, you didn't read any of this post did you.
1. his ps2 is fine
2. he has swap magic, the no solder chip he has is an alternative to the slidecard/fliptop
