i have about 7 PSX back-ups that just hang at the PSX logo. The disk drive makes a funny noise as though it speeds up and slows down and speeds up again. all my other back-ups work, so why not these? I've tried burning them at lower speeds and applied diff. patches but nothing helps. i tried to burn em with Nero, Alcohol 120%, and ImgBrn. Please help out. I have a ver. 7 PS2 with a Magic 3.1
Mod-Chip.
the games are:
Area 51
Fear Efect
Fear Effect 2; Retro Helix
Alien Trilogy
Biohazard 3: The Last Escape(t)
Naruto 2
Biohazard 2 DualShock Edition

hi, mine does the same thing, ps2 cds work psx originals work but psx back ups dont. you need to adjust the cd laser pot to get it to read the discs. i personally never bothered as i dont want to mess it up reading ps2 cds, i just bought a psone to use for my psx discs, i thought this was a better option as psones are available cheap enough nowadays.
psx cds are different to normal cd games & this is why it will not play them without adjustment (on some ps2s).
i hope this helps

i dont know why some played & some didn't? are you using good brand discs? "cheaper" discs can give problems, what discs are you using?
if some play & some don't i don't know if laser adjustment will help, it may be the discs?
here is a guide for laser adjustment if you want to attempt it :-)

let me know if you try this & it works out ok for you.

Stick with the verbatims they are good discs, i cant understand why some work & some dont, are these being made from the originals or downloaded files? if downloaded maybe they are corrupt. if from originals then try reburning a game on a verbatim at the slowest speed possible. also might be worth giving your laser a clean.
the disc spins faster & faster as the laser works harder to try & read it
