From what I understand, if you get the Made In Japan Fuji media, they'll be Taiyo Yudens, which is top notch media.
If you decide to get them, be sure to look on the wrapper. If they say Made In Japan, I would definately get them.

ONLY the "made in japan" ones are, as both dakotafan and aabbccdd pointed out, the "MIJ" on BOTH the 8x DVD-R and 8x DVD+R format are Taiyo Yuden made...
the MIT (made in taiwan) are pretty poor quality media, it ranges from Prodisc to Fujifilm, then it gets better with Ricohjpn and Ritek coded media...but, that is a chance MOSt knowledgeable people are not willing to take with media...stick with the MIJ on the Fuji brand and you will be just fine~ :)

Has any one out there in viewing land find any MIJ Fuji at this weeks Best Buy sale. I have been to 5 BBs and they are all MIT. Looks like this may be the trend, possibly saying goodbye to the MIJ Fujis.....

I have not been able to find a whole lot of MIJ Fuji's in my area. The last time Staples had them on sale, the colored ones, I managed to pick up some. But since then and they restocked all they carry now are the MIT.

dilligaf9 your best bet is to just order Taiyo Yuden online at supermediastore.com or meritline.com the 200 pack runs about 56 bucks and thats with shipping, then you know what your getting without spending 10 bucks in gas running around town trying to find the MIJ fujifilms

aabbccdd... As for the TYs I have a couple stacks from supermedia store. I wanted to try some different media, I have TYs and Verbs now so I wanted to expand my horizons with the Fuji's. As far as wasting gas the BBs are pretty close and my little electric car gets good mileage LOL... It just seems the switch is on to MIT crappy media from the suppliers...

the MIJ fuji's are becoming increasingly harder and harder to find, guess you will have to be "lucky" to get some...last time i found any MIJ Fuji's, was much like arniebear, @ Staples sale on the 30-pack COLORED spindles for less than $10~ :0
only got the last remaining few MIJ spindles in both formats, but since then, when i DO go to bestbuy or staples, at least in MY area, MIT on everything...so i just walk on by...

Yeah, wish I could find some more of those colored Fuji's. The only way you can tell the difference is in the packaging. The MIJ's are in containers that are brighter in color, more fluorescent. Whereas, the MIT are in pastel containers.

I'm completely out of +R's, and I was headed out to buy some when I saw BB's ad for the 50 Fuji's for $14.99. If I get there and they're the MIT, should I take the chance?
I've always used the Sony's from BB and never had a coaster, so I'm skeptical about switching but I'm not paying $44.95 for 50 disks either.

You can wait til there is a sale on Sony, which should be next week. The sales run in cycles. I posted a scan of the 16x Fuji MIT on this thread done with my Plex. Not the best but not the worst, and actually on par with those MIT Sony disks.

If you can't find the Fuji Films MIJ's onsale you can always look from Mij's of Sony or Maxell.. I personally have never had a problem with TDK Mij's either but some don't care for TDK at all for some reason..
Verbatims are also Awesome when you can find them onsale

I've been surfing and reading various posts...am I correct in thinking anything MIJ is a safe bet?
Sorry for sounding ignorant...I've been backing up my disks for over a year but I've always caught the Sony's on sale and never had to consider other brands.
By the way, those were lightning fast replies...you guys rock!

I haven't ran across a MIJ Disc I didn't like yet so I'd say it's a safe bet to ALWAYS look for MIJ

MIJ is always the safest bet, except in the case of Verbatim which is excellent and MIT. The best thing to do is just order online if you can, and get Taiyo Yuden which are the best IMHO and others. Plenty of reputable online dealers and you can usually find a deal of 100 for around 30.00 in -R which are excellent.

Or look for the MIJ Maxells or Sony as tmfloria listed these are good disks.

Okay, guys. Thanks a bunch. I ran the loop today checking Best Buy, Office Depot, Circut City, etc and all of the sale disks were MIT or previously noted as not reputable. I'll order online and be done with it.

You will get great quality ordering the Taiyo Yudens from online, I have no problems with them. Lately, I have been having problems with the MIT Sony media. My Plex power record keeps changing the write speed at 50% to 80% of the burn, meaning there is something they are not liking about this media. No more MIT Sony for me.

I noticed at 6 different stores all the 50 packs of Sony were MIJ, but all the 25 packs were MIT. I had similiar results on my Lite-On drive...the burning speed varied greatly during the burn process when using the Sony MIT's.
Thanks again for all the advice guys...Afterdawn wouldn't be half the site without people like you.
