I just got a new Toshiba S703 with a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R6012 drive installed on it. I was curious if you could tell me a good media to use. I have tried Memorex and HP dvd+r and dvd+rw disc and niether of them worked. It just kept trying to read it and Ahead or Easy CD creator could not read it. Toshiba said it does not support Memorex cause the disc coloring can not be read by the DVD-ROM. Any suggestions? like dics with silver or non colored bottoms. Thanx for the help.

Hello
I have a toshiba 2450 (the canadian vesion of your same notebook with same burner) I have successfully used DVD-R Ritek 2x discs (sorry I don't know exact issue but top is white) for DVD-RW I have tried Princo 1.1 version and they are crap, get 50% error rate. The other media I have tested is Legacy DVD-RW in 10pack all but 1 worked. From online searches (don't know how good tests were) have been told to avoid any disc that is purple on the top (seems silly but I still do it) and the best recommeded from others with our drive is Verbatim DVD-R 2x. If you are in the US these are cheap at Best buy, if in Canada these are $9 each with 15% tax. So I haven't bought them to test.

Well i found out that the DVD+r do not work with Toshiba DVD burners. They use the dvd-r and dvd-rw standards. Not that they tell you when u buy it or is it stated anywhere on thier website or in text for with your computer. Me being a newb to DVD burning didnt even know there was a diff. Anyways dvd-R and dvd-rw work with toshiba. I got some sony dvd-rw that work great.

I use a toshiba SD R5002 and it works greatly with DVD-r for general use, with DVD-R optodisc, but it worked badly with memorex -r.

Hello
The isssue of where it says DVD-R or DVD-RW only is in the manual, but no buddy reads that thing. Some drives if a multi drive will burn to DVD-RAM discs, but I don`t think SD-R6012 are supose to, but I have heard that some do. I have also heard that the SDR6012 can some times read (NOT write) DVD+RW and DVD+R, I was wondering if anyone has tried this. What I have noticed is that it almost seems that every SD-R6012 is different, Mine actual writes at up to 1.4x speed and thats why I think Toshiba only recomeds 2x DVD-R. To decrease failures of creaper discs I have to specify burning at 1x only and not set it to Max.
Has anyone tried Optodiscs or memorex, I have only read mixed reviews on these.
