What program (if there is one) is best to use to create PSP backgrounds out of Jpeg's or bmp's? I have a ton of pictures on my PC, and alot of them would make great backgrounds. I know they have to be 24 bit bmp, no bigger than 150kb, and 300x170 res. I also know how to put them on my PSP once they are the right size, and format. I just dont know how to convert them.
If somebody has a link to a tutorial, that would be nice. Or just give me the name of a program that can convert my jpeg's into the proper resolution to make the backgrounds.

So do you know how to resize it when you get to the psp? because then you could set it as the background... if this what you are talking about.

No, I dont know how to resize my pictures. I know how to convert jpegs to bmp, but I cant figure out how to shrink or change a normal sized pic to the proper background size for the PSP. I downloaded a bunch of psp backgrounds from a site, but those are pre-fitted to the correct size so you can just put them in as backgrounds. I hope I am being clear.

ok well go and save them as pictures. put them in your psp as pictures. now when you get to the picture press the triangle and go to where it says "set as" or somthing like that. then when it asks if you want to put the picture as a background say yes.
to resize a pic to fit the screen go to the pic and click triangle. when you get the go to "fit" or whatever then it will set the picture to the right size. then do like i said at first.

Im not getting those options when I hit triangle. When I go to the list of photos in my PSP, the only options it gives me when I hit triangle is Display, Delete, or Information. When I go to the photo, and then hit triangle, the menu pops up with zoom in, zoom out, help, rotate, etc. I get no option to "save as" or anything.
That is what led me to believe you had to resize the pics before you put them on your PSP to use them as backgrounds. I think the version 2.0 PSP's may allow you more options for backgrounds. Im not sure though.

Are you sure its not firmware, im on 1.5 & i have no options to set as background even when i put presized pics in. Ive always used 3rd party prgrams if the psp has the ability to do this without me upgrading that would be great.

Yeah, I still dont see those options. I will keep searching for a program, or media viewer that can change the size of photos. I want to make my own backgrounds.

well hell guys i don't know, seems like all that i told you isn't helping. The firmware shouldn't be the problem, but yeah i know 2.0 works fine and i know it works
just upgrade to 2.0 and then downgrade to 1.5 after you get the background you want. But sorry guys thought that a 1.5 would have had the same options, fixing my for the noobs thread.:(

1.5 does not have the option to just put a picture as a background like 2.0+ does. You have to flash your pictures over the original Sony backgrounds, using a program like PSPersonalise. You can get this program from the downloads section at www.psp-hacks.com.
PSPersonalise is easy to use, you just need your pics in 24bit bitmap, not bigger than 150kb, and 300 by 170. And they need to be named from 01.bmp up to 12.bmp, and need to be in your Root directory. Then just install PSPersonalise like any homebrew on 1.5 and run it.
Hope that helps.

Sorry, did you just want to know how to resize and change to bmp? Just use Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

Thanks codeman74, Advanced Jpeg compressor 4.8 works like a charm. Now It is easy to resize my jpegs now, and then save them as bmp's. I will probably be uploading many new background images to psp-hacks now.

Should you ever want to change your backgrounds back to the originals, (i think you have to if you ever want to upgrade from 1.5), psp-hacks have a nice little zip of the original Sony backgrounds.
