It said this was the place to talk about backing up PC Games - so here I am.

I bought Doom 3 yesterday, and immediately began to back up the discs. Everything was going smooth until installed the game from the back ups (put the originals up).

I made a copy of Disc 1 (you have to have it in the drive to play Doom) using ConeCd, and had it mounted in the virtual drive. When I mount the game, then double click, it'll bring up the main menu - all's fine. But when I go to click on 'Play', the menu goes away and a screen shot of some creature comes up (acting like it's going to load the game), but an error pops up in front of the screen shot say I need to insert Doom 3 Disc 1 then click OK and restart the application. It does this numerous times, so I give in, and insert the the Disc 1 of the *backup*, and it still gives me the warning and won't let me play it.

How do I make an image to put in the virtual drive to let me play Doom?

I've found that installing the game from the original and then using the virtually mounted backup after the (installation and registration) works better. I installed Civ3 from backup after I erased it due to computer troubles. Come to find out it would not work; dug out the original installed it then continued using the ISO file as usual and everything was fine. Maybe my problem is unique I don't know as this is the only game that I've done this with.

do a search for mini image, (or look at the top thread of cd-r) follow the instructions you find there, keep your incredibly small file on your hdd and you wont need to use a disc at all.

Ya, first you're going to need A-ray scanner.

Run the program and it will detect the type of protction on your disc.
You can these use alcohol 120%
Select image making wizard and
(select the same protection that was detcted before),
And copy it to your harddrive.

You can then mount the images to a virtual drive.
Or if you want to burn a backup select 'image BURNING wizard'.
And choose the same protection in the burn settings and burn a backup of your game.

Much better IMO than using a crack if you do MAKE A BACKUP
copy of the original .exe file so have it for updates ect..
