theres something called reality media player,taht plays only .AVI, and it wont work on a dms chip, so a search on google and theres more info on the site
It's much more user friendly than PS2 Reality, and many people prefer it over PS2Reality. SMS plays AVIs, divxs, and mp3s, and turns your PS2 into a multimedia centre. Don't think wmv is supported though. It can play media from CDR, DVDR, memory stick, network, and HDD. Works without a modchip if you have the independence exploit working.

It can transcode most other formats so that they can be played on a standard DVD player like PS2
Transcode it and burn it to either CD or DVD
@flipfoot: SMS will not play wmv files, but if you or a friend are interesting in adding additional codec support, there'll be loads of people interested at http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=111 (this is where most of the development is discussed for SMS).
