Hi there,
I loved my BENQ DQ60 DVD Rewriter up until 2 days ago when it went from burning a dvd in 30minutes to 2 hours. I heard there were some upgrade files you could download that fixed problems with this burner? does anyone know the websited these fixes are located on? any help is greatly appreciated!!! thank-you

Are you doing "exactly" the same steps like two days ago, using the same media and software? it is strange to suddenly need an "upgrade file".When is the last time you defragmented your drive? Give that a try first.
If you are talking about updating the firmware, i think the newest is MREC .Check and see what version are you runing. if you need update, you can find it here
http://support.benq.com/files/storage/Firmware/DVDRW/DQ60/MREC.zip
hope it works for you

Thanks for the help. I have more than 20GB free space on my hard drive to work with and i haven't changed a thing on my computer or used any different software then before. That's why i can't figure it out, i even went today and exchanged my burner for a new one, same model but it's still taking as long. Therefore i can at least rule out the fact that i may have burned out the laser. I did copy approx. 200 dvd's on the orinial one. I am using DVD43 as my decrypter and 1Click DVD Copy as my burning software.
Thanks again,
Chelsey

No problem!
When is the last time you defragmented your drive? That could help also. And are you talking just about the burning, or also ripping/transcoding incuded in those 2 hours? You can find out for sure if is a burner problem(it doesn't matter now ,you got another one), you can change the burning software.

I tried all the things you reccomended; defragmenting c drive, updating firmware, DMA is on and it burns fast again, the only problem is it only puts the menu and previews on the disk not the acutal movie. I'm worried now that i shouldn't have updated the firmware! I'm going to uninstall my 1 ClickDVD Copy software and then reinstall and see if that helps.

Well...
Your firmware should have nothing to do with the transcoding. The firmware only helps to read/transfer the data between your HDD/burner/media. Whatever is getting on the disc, depends on your copying software that tells your burner what to burn. To make sure they are the proble, you can use other ripping/burning software. DVD43 is not being updated very often, so you might want to try DVD Decrypter,DVDFab Decrypter and also DVD Shrink-all free.
Here is a guide you might want to look at. Everything is free, except Nero. You can replace the nero step with DVD Shrink-DVD Decrypter.
Hope is not too confusing :~)!
P.S :~) I guess it would help if I actually put the link!

I can sense a smile on your face!
I am glad to hear that it worked for you! if you read that guide and get fmiliar with it and the programs involved, you will be able to backup virtually any DVD using just free software! And for some movies, you don't even need all of them depends on how heavy the encryption is!
Cheers!

Chelsey_N,
I am thinking of buying that burner. I currently have the Benq 1640, which is no longer sold for some reason. I take it you like it, particulary since you got it back to working properly. Did you install and run the QSuite software from the Benq site, if so, you should be only using the +R media, for the reason that it will automatically booktype it to DVD-ROM, and consequently your burnt discs will be able to play on any DVD standalone player.
Happy burning,
Rich

Rich,
I'm using 1Click DVd Copy at the moment with DVD43 as my decryter. I don't know anything about the Q Suite Software? I havne't had problems copying any dvd's with those 2 programs except for recently with The Legend of Zorro! I would reccomend the BENQ DQ60, it burns super fast although i have seen a lot of forum post where people were unhappy with it but it works fine for what i want it for!
