Hi, I just started using DVD Shirnk and my movies are coming out with problems. I also just installed a DVD burner, an LG with LightScribe ability into my PC.

I have been doing kids movies that DVD shrink, after analyzing, requires no compression. It is at 100%, so I just do a back up.

But, once it's done and I play the movies with the back up CD i just made and about 25 or 30 minutes and also to the end of the movie, I start getting frame freezes and the movie must stop. Very annoying for anyone watching to see an incomplete movie, let a lone a screaming 3 year old with her favorite purple animal movie start.

Any ideas? Do I have a bad Burner? Bad quality disks? It has happened on every DVD I have ever made (all 10 of them)...

THanks

If you post some information, eg Burn log if using Nero, brand of media you are using etc., there will be plenty of people here who will assist you.

Welcome to aD!
Let's start w/ the media 1st. What brand are you using? Burn speed?
Is your drive's firmware up to date?
To try and stop some of the problems at the end lower your target size in shrink to 4360. Go to edit>preference. Click on custom and type in 4360.

Thanks for the quick response, to answer your questions:
1. TDK (what was on special) DVD-R
2. Burn Speed 12x (16,520kb/s)
3. Firmware is up to date (so it says when I click on updates)
4. I just tried another movie in the Reauthor mode with some compression, 83%) awaiting results.
5. I did the same movie 2 hours ago at Auto, Still images of the Extras etc and 12 minutes into the movie, freeze, stops, DVD player goes to sleep and that's the end of the movie.

I just burned the same movie that failed. The size is at 4.463MB,, I am going to run over to the DVD player and let it run and see if it stops (freezes) at 12 minutes with the Auto setup and Extras at Still Images.

TDK is not always the best - they use different manufacturers - some pretty bad. You can id the manufacturer in Nero tool kit - that may be part of the problem. 2nd slow the burn speed down on these - it sounds like your overburning them (above the rated speed) - reduce it down to 8x to start.
As umg pointed out the Nero log can be helpful too. Just be sure to edit out the serial #. If using Nero 6 it can be found at c:program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.log.

Just to correct myself:

1. DVD's are not TDK, they are Memorex
2. Upgraded Nero to latest patch on the web: 6.6.1.4 (rebooted PC etc)

Launch DVD Shrink and start the encoding process and it completes it 100% and ejects original movie/dvd.

I then get the following error:

Error:\nCannot connect TRF.

Followed by Windows informaiton etc

NT-SPTI Used
Nero API Version 6.6.1.4
Using interface versio 6.3.1.4 (this must be what came with my DVD Burner driver/nero basic version).

The entire burn process stops.

I am using DVD Shrink Version 3.2.0.15

Should I uninstall Nero and go back to the original version that came with my DVD bundled package?

Unforunately the last nero update 'broke' the autoburn w/ shrink.
So you have 2 options w/ nero: step down to version 6.6.0.18 (I wouldn't go back to the original that came bundled) or open nero burning rom and burn the movies video_ts folder with that.
Here's a link to the previous version:
http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

Ah the infamous Memorex - well let's just say they're usually no good - they mainly use cmc as a manufacturer. One of the worst. With these try a burn of 4x - that may help the playback bit. Instore look for Verbatim or made in japan Fuji or Sony. Better media will give you much better results and less headaches!!

I wanted to give an update to all those kind folks.

1. I ended going back to the bundled version as somementioned the new version broke the auto-burn. Not sure if I should ever uprade again or go to a more robust 'purchased' version of Nero.

2. I set my max size to 4360, as recommended by nice folks.

3. I set the burn speed from the maximum of 16x to 4x and it works fine with the 'cheap media' (memorex). I have 5 DVD's working great and the little purple animal doesn't freeze so the wife and kids are happy.

Thanks to all for your great feedback.

good media doesn't have to be very expensive. Buy the good stuff, you can find good media at prices equal or even lower than memorex. Best buy had a 50 pack of Verbatims for $14.
Glad you got it figured out.

I don't want to encourage bad behavior:~), but depending on the media ,burner and burner firmware, one can get better quality burning at X8. X4 is maybe the safest speed to go, but it doesn't mean you "always" have to burn at X4. I personally have no problem burning my TYs(Sony MIJ) at X8. Many old time burners have reported getting better quality scans when burning at X8 than burning @X4 for X16 rated media for example.
If you want to play safe, X4 is the way to go. But, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES I would buy memorex again! of course, unless they take their business to Tayio Yuden or Mitsubishi, which I doubt!
