I've read some of the prior threads about parameter error. It's the message that points to a drive then says parameter is incorrect.
I got that message several times while burning the 3rd disc of Oz, Season 5 and the Farscape series (Season 1).
I have burned a number of movies using the following programs:
DVD Decryptor, Shrink, AnyDVD, CloneDVD and VOB Blanker. All stopped at the same spot on the various discs.
Now here's the weird part: All the failures took place on my Dell Inspiron (1 month) old. The dell has a DVD rom and DVD DL writer (can do plus/negative DVDs).
On another computer I have (older HP), I have an external Lacie DVD writer (Burns negative DVDs only) and DVD DL burner (can't recall the brand). When I put the movies into the Lacie drive to be read with DVD Decryptor and Shrink / Nero burner - the discs burned without problems - no parameter errors.
I'm wondering does the drive brands/types and read speed of drives influence the error - parameter error?
Just curious - since one system will not burn while another will....
thanks
Pat

you know thats a good question i thought i read that same q&a some where here before and i think it did have something to do with the compatibility of of the media and its signiture from the manufacturer too, not too say the least the updated firmware of your drives and the make and model too compare with the media
for exa. mine is a nec 2500 a burner and i found that HP DVD-R discs are the best for it where maxell doest

wpchawaii,
Welcome to the forum. Can you tell us who the real manuf of the burner and what firmware you are using ( DVDDecrypter should give this info to you) and the blank media you are using. You might try using DVDFAB Decrypter to rip the DVD to HD abd then use VobBlanker to process the file and then use Shrink to process and then burn accordingly.
Please post back that info if you can in this thread.
wgullion, You were really close so we will let you buy the drinks tonight. LOL Below is the approved media list for your burner:

Thanks for the responses. Whenever I've had a problem...I could find the solution here!
Will see what I can find out when I get home and post back.
I know the DVD Rom and DVD DL burner in the Dell Inspiron are those you can select from "build your computer screen".
It was just odd - 2 of the 3 Oz 5th season burned a okay...then the 3rd one ran into the parameter error. All Farscape (season 1) had that problem. I know my read rate on the Dell system was going at 3.7x while on the Lacie drive it was going at 2.1x.
Curious question: When I used DVD decryptor it creates a MDS and ISO file. How does VOB Blanker use those? Every time I tried that approach, VOB Blanker couldn't find the file for it's searching for Video TS.
I can tell you both computers burn on the same media - TDK DVD+Rs. And yes I admit - bulk buy at Costco. There's been no problem in burning to these DVDs and playing in various players.

VobBlanker only does Vob files and not .iso file. Try my other suggestions and let me know how it goes when you get home. TDK's are not the best but if it works for you that is OK

Thanks for the reply back. I checked the DVD ROM (where the original movie is held) and it's a:
Sony DVD-ROM DDU1615 FDS1 (ATA)
Not sure where to look for the firmware or how to update.
The TDKs seem to work okay. What's been the problem with them? Don't have alot of choices here (in Hawaii - I know, cry me a river) - our shelves contain TDK, Fuji, Memomex, Sony and maybe a couple of others. Anything in bulk, has to be ordered through the internet and shipping becomes an issue especially if it's FED Ex or UPS - no ground choices here!
Will try the DVDFAB. Does that create files / folders for VOB Blanker to access?
Thanks
Pat

wpchawaii,
I need the burner not the DVD-Rom. DVDFAB Decrypter will rip the files to HD and then you use VobBlanker to correct the structure

Sorry about that. The issue I have is the programs reading from the DVD-ROM not so much the burner. DVD Decryptor did burn the movies to the HD, but Shrink still would generate the error. Also tried to DVD Clone - in some cases it would scan to 94% and stop or scan successfully, go to encode and stop at 98%.
Here's the info string on the burner: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA 4164B
Firmware D108
Thanks

wpchawaii ,
In Shrink set the target size to Custom and the number to the right to 4300
Does the disks you are trying to do have any scratches on them?
If you can read the same disk on the other computer but you can not from this computer's DVD-Rom then the DVD-Rom might be going bad or maybe needs to be cleaned. 1 month old it should not need that.
Are all of the cables on the inside seated properly.
In Device Manager do you have any yellow flags showing up.
Look at the secondary IDE Channel( Device Manager) and make sure it is DMA mode
You stated when DVDClone is encoding and it stops at 98% is this computer a laptop?
Since it is a new computer have you called Dell to see what they say.

@wpchawaii
If you want your result to be an ISO Image instead of VIDEO_TS, then do as the following:
<> rip the movie via the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.7.2
<> process your VIDEO_TS.IFO file through VobBlanker 2.1.0.0
<> Open File via DVD Shrink, but set set to create An ISO Image and burn with DVD Decrypter, then trascode as normal.
<> burn your final ISO with DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn, Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express
Good luck!! Or if you needed more info, then just follow the 2 links in bold under my sig.

Thanks for replies back!
Both computers are desktops. I kwow on the newer machine it's not a a memory issue. As for scratches, that may be an issue as well. A couple of them had that.
Will try the methods you both have described and let you know what happens. I have more Farscapes to burn....and will see what happens.
Thanks
