Please help. I have a NEC 3550 flashed with DEE & Liggys firmware for the RPC1 since it is supposedly not riplocked. It rips some (back-ups) ok around 7000-10000 k/b while other times, and then, actually alot it is only at speeds of 3000-4000 k/b. I have checked and yes it is in DMA settings ultra2 33(?) anyway I have a NEC 3520 and I flashed the firmware for riplock and RPC1 and it is always consistent with (back-up)ripping speeds around 7500 k/b unless the back is small and requires no compression than I hit 13000 k/b. oh yeah. I use dvd shrink for this process. What is up with the 3550 being screaming fast to a slug. I have compared both drives before using the same back-up to read and have received differences, usuallu in favor of the 3520. Please advise

It will be interesting to find out what is going on. My 3550A is working perfectly.

I will keep an eye on this thread. You might want to post it at CD freaks. http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=86

Thanks for the reply, I have visited club cd freaks and never posted anything there, but I have tried different firmwares from dee & Liggy's site and have found no differences. It just seems this drive is rip locked somehow even though it is not. I have been using my 3520 more for ripping, but with Nero 7 it seems it changes my 3520a to pio mode after burning a back-up each time, but ripping it does not matter.

I have a AMD 3200 xp processor, 1024MB Dual Channel OCZ platinum REV 2 memory. I have 2 74 GIG raptors running in raid a 0 on an abit an7 mobo. I also have an antec truepower 550w power supply. I assume my hardware should be good enough.
