burning with liteon 851@832s CG5J firmware. burning at 4X and 8X have
been getting pretty high pifs I've had mediocre burns with TYG03's and now with MCC04's what gives? bad burner? settings? should I worry about PIE's that avg over 250.0 when the pif's are only 3 or 4 at the most and avg. 0.25 ?

also, my scans are almost always better at 2x but it seems like everyone scans at 4X. is 4x the standard?

I certainly would'nt be happy with the scan you posted.

ain't the Liteon (*FLS) SOHW-832S a X8 drive?

What sort of results did you have with X8 media (like TYG02)

I just got some 16x verbs (MCC 004) and I got a quality rating in the 55% range on the first disk out of the box. Using Pioneer DVR 110D burner and I did the scan with DVDINFOPRO. Burned disk with DVDDecrypter in ISO write mode at 4x. I'm surprised to say the least after hearing from so many people that this media is awesome. Looking on the bright side it's better than my old memorex and other similar brand media with which I was getting scans in the 0% range.

Ya,

the X16 media on an X8 drive, you'd need to check carefully if the firmware update (FLH) on your drive supports burning that media.

MCC004 (X16) Verbatim is a real good blank, but only if your burner supports it.

i know two of my burners luv em, benq 1640&50, both X16 drives.

With a X8 drive, try burning quality media(TY/Verbatim/Maxell X8) @X4 on updated firmware.

thanks guys--someone should take the list of dvd media codes and correspond them to DVD burners that like them--It seems that one cant just buy "Good" media that will work in most drives...it seems far more specialized than that...my liteon drive is an old 851 that I flashed to
an 832s. What is the best TY dvd+rs that I can buy for that? I also have an old sony dw22a(or whatever) that is flashed to sony 710a. what is the best DVD+R media for that one?

@socrates9

The Pioneers are excellent drives for burning, but they are terrible scanning drives... I have a 109.
