Probably compatability issues.

What brand name and model# is your burner?
What is the brand name and model# of your dvd-rom drive?
What brand name/speed rate/and format is your blank media?
Can your pc play it's own backups using that DVD-RW drive that burned them?

This sounds more like a compatability issue. Possibly be the format/low quality media/week burner.

Make sure your pc can play it's own backups from the DVD-RW drive that produced them. It should be able to. After that,it's all about the compatability of those backups that's being played on other pc drives/stand alone players/and game consoles.

Media quality can also be a factor. Some of it is a bunch of crap. Quality media is the key. The answer to that brand of media will help.

Burner quality: Some of the backups produced by some of the lower quality drives can also factor in. I've got 6 pc burners and can see the variations between all their backups. Some drives can be picky, just like stand alone players.

It's not that I have a problem ripping it, the problem is that the computer won't even read it, like it is a blank disc, but when I put a real disc(not a backup) it works fine. When I put one of my cd's that i put programs on in the drive, it came up right away. It is just weird how a backup cd will show up, but not a backup dvd.
