I am a newbie, so instead of just "cold calling" for answers, i researched your threads. I am looking to backup VHS to PC.Assuming I don't care about hardware encoding (I'll do the software end) which stablizer would everyone reccomend? Both were mentioned by members but per forum rules I'm not supposed to PM them. Here are the contenders:

http://www.buyonline.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=1836...

P.S. Should I spend the extra $$ and get a hardware encoder like the:

For me the simplest, easiest, cheapest is the ADS DVDXpress. They have different models, it's simple, it works.
Some persons in these here forums disagree with me...but...it works for me.
check eBay there are some good offers, but buy only from a reliable vendor. Don't buy from a private person. Avoid COMPU-TERRA, they are real crooks.

Hope it helps

Thanks! I did a search and can only find shopping info about it. Is this one hardware conversion or does my cpu take the load? (did that sound nasty, lol?)

he he he
I don't know about the "load". I never worried about it. I run 2GB memory on a AMD3200+ CPU, so I don't mind where the "load" ends up he he he.
Go on eBay and check under stabilizers. This one is out of production (I believe) but still available.
Or go on to the ADS website ans search for their products.
Before I bought mine I did some research and that brand and model was the best and most affordable.
As I said before some people will say anything negative about some manufacturers...go with what you feel is comfortable for you (meaning manufacturers).
I don't know where in the world you are but if U R in the USA check Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City and also go to pricegrabber.com or pricewatch.com (the last one is better)
Also check out the other posted forums...
SOMEONE...SOMEWHERE...SOMEHOW...WILL HAVE THE ANSWER (not always the right one...)

Also go onto the internet sites of:
www.pricegrabber.com
www.pricewatch.com
The last one is best
Of course there's
Ubid.com

NOTE: When you do the search do it as VIDEO STABILIZERS

i KEEP FORGETTING...SO i KEEP ON ADDING... 8>)
Remember that with all this COPYRIGHT BS that is going on...
many manufacturers are making new products that do not provide the copying or editing capabilities of older products.
If U find something from the "past" (not too ancient) and in EXCELLENT CONDITION...get it.
I have been doing this for sometime and believe...until you get the thing right...it will take some doing (I mean what to buy, what brand, what features). It takes a college degree (almost) to decypher all this crap. he he he
