TROUBLE BURNING DVD

I use both Roxio and Nero to burn dvd's. I have several that I do not know how to put on dvd. In Roxio, the message comes up that the files are good to burn as VCD's, but not DVD's. These same files lock up Nero if you try to edit them. Can anyone help with this?

nero and roxio dont always play well..
post an error log out of Nero.. and we can tear it apart and find the root of your issue.

But if you do have Roxio then just run Roxiozapper to get rid of it. But you should probably post a Nero log anyways. Nero logs are under Ahead\Nero\nerohistory.

Most of the problem with recording suites is that they come with batch writing software. If a person is going to record DVD movies, they need to get rid of the batch writing software. Nero has InCD and Roxio used to have Drag To Disc. I'm not sure what they have now. InCD has to be deleted. Drag to Disc can sometimes be turned off, sometimes it has to be deleted and sometimes the individual has to figure which he wants to keep, Nero or Roxio. All that said, which version of Nero are you using? They recently released a couple of "dodgy" updates.

Crappola in capital letters is still crap. Both -R and +R are good as long as they're compatible with the burner and player. For universal compatibility, booktyping the +R to DVD ROM is handy for the few players that don't support +/-R media.
Sure, ripping with DVD43+DVD Decrypter will work. One just has to realize that Decrypter is being used merely to copy the files to the HD with DVD43 doing the decryption. The key here is that DVD43 is often well behind in being updated for new protections that keep coming along. With new movies such as "The Fog" and "The Legend of Zorro" you end up with files that won't record when using DVD43. Don't believe it, give it a try.
Once a person decrypts and has a compliant set of files, transcoding or encoding is a simple deal. Use any of the decent transcoders, Shrink among those, or one of the encoders such as HC, Pro Coder, or CCE. My preference lies with RB/CCE for the best quality video output. I use AnyDVD+DVD Decrypter because Slysoft keeps AnyDVD updated better than other software I've tried. DVDFab Decrypter is a free ripper that has been doing good lately. Remember, the key to a good backup is in getting a good "cleaned" set of compliant files to transcode or encode.

if your any media is skipping and if its cheap media.. then you need to get rid of it.. only get quality stuff. the (+) can be booktyped. but if its crappy media.. its not going to make a difference.. dont bother using anything cheap.. few sales out there will be good tomorrow..

You're right, if a person wants to talk media, the media forum is the place to do it. I merely mentioned the formats, not the wide range of quality one can find in both. Using quality media should be a "no brainer". Crap in, crap out; meaning if you put crap media in to start a backup, you get your files recorded to crap media, which can play like crap. Then you have to wonder about those who post in all caps anyway (against forum rules) and divert the topics of a thread. Take media discussions to the media forum.
