Hello everyone, I'm new using DVD shrink. I just installed it yesterday on my computer and I was trying to backup Shrek 2 but my computer kept freezing. I first tried burning it from the DVD to the hard drive and it froze in the middle of encoding it. I tried to run "deep analysis" and it also froze doing that. I copied the DVD to my hard drive using AnyDVD and then tried shrinking it with DVD shrink and it froze in the middle of it again. I've tried the two options to increase the quality of the video and turning them off but it keeps freezing. I built my computer 2 months ago and it had never frozen before. I have windows XP with a P4 3.2 ghz, could this be an issue? As anyone experienced anything similar? Do you guys think it may be the movie, the program or something else? If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it. Thx

Look at underside of the DVD to see it it's dirty or badly scratched. Being a kids flick it my be damaged or dirty. Did you try a different movie?

So if it is scratched, eventhough I managed to copy it to the Hard Drive, could it be an issue reading it from the Hard Drive also?
Something I noticed was that it doesn't stop on the same spot everytime, sometimes it goes further and sometimes shorter.

My bad I didn't realize you already had it to HD. A senior moment. LOL
I can't imagine why you can't shrink it if you got it to the HD. That's the hardest part. Did you try a different movie? Do you have Nero recode? that should work also.

No, I haven't tried another movie. When I go back home from work, I'll try that. I'm not sure what version of Nero I got, I got it with my DVD burner, I'm pretty sure it's just a simple version. It just has options to copy a DVD, but not to shrink it. That's why I wanted to use DVD Shrink.

I have exactly the same problem as leosus. Just wondering how leosus getting on. So far I have been advised that I have a loose cable and power supply. I have re-cabled my computer, power supply seems healthy stage. Uninstalled and re-installed DVD Shrink, problem still the same. Someone advise that I should use 80 pins of my data cable to my writter, instead of 40 pins. Is that really matter as I am just using DVD Shrink to analyse or back up the movie files from hd (... by DVD Decrypter). Movie that I tried to back up is Dirty Dancing (1987 movie), indicating that it is no a new movie with some sort of "sophisticated Copy right protection". I have quite a new self-build computer- P4 3.2Ghz, win xp, sp2, 1Gh DDR2 ram, 120G SATA HDD, Pioneer DVD writer. Appreciate all yr help if u can. Thanks

ahd8888, I have an update for you. I tried a different movie and it worked, in fact, I have backed up 3 movies already and didn't had any problems at all. Seems that the Shrek DVD might have been scratched or too dirty for it to record properly, but I didn't notice anything big on it, so I'm not quite sure what's wrong with it. Have you tried some other movies? If not, I really recomend it, because it solved my problem.

Hi, thanks for replying me back. I have just got my one working last nite. It is nothing wrong with the disc because I managed to copy the movie file (Dirty Dancing)to my HD by using DVD Decrypter. The problem started when I used DVD Shrink to do the "Deep Analysis" or do the "Back-up". It just freezed my computer in the middle of it. How I fix my computer? I wasn't sure. But what I did was I restored my computer back to earlier date (just before I installed MS Antispyware software, screensaver program, some Dora's demo Games, probably windows update, and Norton Anti Virus Update). I kept my eye on my ASUS Ai Booster (A display which show me the temp of my computer, constance at 75 degree Celcius, had overclocked to 103%, full performance of the fan) Then I tried my DVD Shrink on other movie (Madagasgar) with no problem. Then, I restored the system to the current date, and DVD shrinking the movie (Dirty dancing) that I have problem with and "Wa lah" it did not freeze. I guess last nite was my lucky nite. I hope the problem is gone forever. So I wasn't sure whether is it something to do with the program i installed or the update i done. Or is it just the temperature of my computer that causing the problem or the power supply is playing game with me or is it my hardware problem (ASUS mobo-P5WD2 Premium, P4 3.2Ghz, 1G DDR2, 450w power supply). Hope this can help for people who have the same problem.
