I have visited several sites for said free music and about 75 - 80 % want you to pay either an annual fee or lifetime fee.

To me FREE means FREE so no charge should be incurred.

The main reason I am trying to get onto a good music site is to try and find copies of my original music collection which got stolen when I was burgled a few years ago.

The main albums I am looking for is The Black Album by The Damned and Live Life by Thin Lizzy.

Any free sites would be apretiated.

They mean, pay a fee and download all the music you want. I mean if you want [FREE], then use p2p, other than that you will have to pay money.

You won't find a website which let's you download music for "free" because it's illegal. If there are any then they won't be online for much longer because they will be found by the RIAA. There are however P2P (Peer 2 Peer) programs which you can share files with other people. Music, Video's, Games etc. can all be downloaded from P2P programs but it's illegal to do so. So if you choose to go down this route then it's at your own risk and don't be suprised if you get a nasty letter from the RIAA suing you for $4,000.

If you don't want to take the risk of getting found out then you can either download music legally from sites such as iTunes and Napster or you can buy the cd's you lost from the burglary againj and make back up copies of them and store them in a safe place to avoid the same thing again in the future.

Also, a lot of those sites you were looking at are rip offs. Once you pay them, they just give you links to p2p programs.
