Hello, this is my first post so bear with me. I would like to get some DVDs onto my ipod. And i know that my pc recognizes dvds because i have watched them on it. But i have used like 4 different ripping programs and none of them recognize the dvd i put into the tray.

How can i get these programs to recognize my DVDs!

Thanks

Are you getting any options when you insert your DVD? Check and make sure your autoplay settings for the drive are correct. Right click on your drive in My Computer and then choose properties in the sidebar and then the autoplay tab.

i did what u said...but it isnt giving me any options when i put in the dvd...also when i click on the drive and look at whats in it...it doesnt show anything...i think its not recognizing them anymore. Would getting a new hardrive do that? cuz our old one crashed...and maybe it had the software that recognized the dvds....

@lildudejs
What hardware crashed? I guess this problem stated then?
You can try this uninstall and reinstall the ide controllers - here's a guide if needed:

Also make sure the cables are securely connected on your drive.

i've had this happen on several computers while i was in an austere environment (iraq). the dvd drives would read cd's, but not dvd's. turning the computer completely off (not rebooting) and back on sometimes seemed to help. also, cleaning out the drive with air, and a soft cloth on the "eye" helped. sometimes it's unrecoverable, however.

i don't think it has anything to do with software. i believe cd's are easier to read, and are less prone to errors because the tracks are larger. dvd's require higher accuracy because of the data density. i attributed it to dust and/or dirty, ungrounded electricity.
