Is there very much difference?? I currently have about some Verbatim 16x inkjet printable DVD+r, but was looking to purchase another 100 blanks soon. Was wondering if Taiyo's were much better than the VErbatims or if they are pretty close?? Reason being my local sam's club carries the VErbatims, but I would need to send away for the others. Thanks in advance for any help.

Almost forgot, for burning movies, would DVD-R be more universally compatible with more DVD players?? I believe I read that somewhere on here, but I can't find the post/link now. Thanks again for any help you can give this newbie. This site is great!!!

you can do either.. i would do probably do the verbs because i dont like shipping stuff.. on the other hand.. i know there is a sale this weekend for sony 50pks for 14.99.. if you find the MIJ..those are TY.
if your drive booktypes the DVD+R to dvd rom.. that would make them pretty much universal..
what drive are you using?

@pennst
there are quite a few modified firmwares for NEC drives that enable it to "booktype" (set DVD+R to dvd-rom)...
here is the BEST source for finding the one that suits you best :
http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/
on the left hand side, click on the "NEC-3550/3551" tab and it will show you all the various firmwares on the right...but, please bear in mind, IF you do decide to use a modified firmware, your warranty will be VOIDED and you COULD "fry ur drive" if not done properly, i say this NOT to scare you, but be aware of the possible issues beforehand, become familiar with the steps to do so PRIOR to actually performing the flash~ :)
good luck

as per your initial question, either Taiyo or Verbatim is just fine...i don't personally use Verbatim in the DVD-R format, as i'm a DVD+R guy, but my DVD-R TYs in all 3 rated speeds have been GREAT for me on my various burners... you can't go wrong with either...

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups
