Ok I have swap magic 3 plus, and I've tried to back up 2 games so far, and when I go to boot them using swap magic it says not a valid ps2 disc.
So I read about disc id utility so I tried to boot that too and it would boot under special boot but it would go into a black screen..
will a game not load unless you have the disc id? because I dont care about online play I just want to back up games.
Or perhaps I am burning wrong, even though I have tried various burning programs and various methods.
by the way I tried all this on dvd-r's.
And I have also read many guides from this forum and none seem to be helping my problem, so it's not like i'm just posting this question with out trying to figure things out on my own, but right now this is my last option..

are you using the slide card to lock the tray back in place (to its original position) after you swap? Also, what brand DVDR discs are you using?
V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

if your play station is retuning to boot ie. the ps2 screen that appears when you first power it on then it is detecting the tray being opened your sure your not hitting the eject button on the console
just opening the tray with the slide tool swaping disks then pushing X on your controller

i load my ps2 with swapmagic already in...the screen comes up to where it says load program...i then use the slide tool to open the tray, i put my backup copy in the tray i close it with my hand, then i use the slide card to lock the tray back in place...then i click load program..then it says not a valid ps2 disc
am i doing anything wrong?

I havent backed up that game before so I dont know if it has any special requirements do you have any other backups you can try can you give me the exact model of you ps2 it could be the disks you are using I only ever use Verbatim or sony it could be something to do with dnas on the disk but I'm yet to see that cause an invalid media error

use Alcohol 120% keep that burn speed down to 4X
and depending on your disk quality you should get an accurate burn

Oh Jeez, this is more than likely a media problem. Try some better media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim.
86. Q. Where can I find good deals on legit Taiyo Yuden's and Verbatim's?
A. http://www.supermediastore.com Great List of Merchants locally, online, in the U.K., etc:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/buymedia.htm
106. Q. Where I can find top notch Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim media locally?
A. This is somewhat of a crap shoot. Big manufacturer's like Fuji, Sony, and Maxell have at one point past or present payed Taiyo Yuden to manufacture media for them. The big companies slap their name on the label even though the discs were manufactured in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. These discs will always be made in Japan. Authentic TY media isn't made anywhere else. Even if it says Made in Japan on the label, there is no gauruntee of getting authentic Taiyo Yuden media. You could still end up with Sony or Fuji media codes. Hence why I said this is a crap shoot. Places like Comp USA, Office Depot, Sam's Club, and Staples will carry Made In Japan branded discs. Again there is no way to know for sure from the package whether these are authentic Taiyo Yuden's. If you don't want to risk getting non TY discs, you can find 50 packs of Verbatim in the afore mentioned chain stores. One other alternative is the Made in Japan High Grade Maxell DVD+R's. They will say Made in Japan on the label and "High Grade" as well. These are excellent media. Remember when using DVD+R's, it's best you have a burner that supports booktyping/bitsetting, and a v.4 PS2 or later. Much thanks goes to kivory666 aka "docTY" for this information. He is indeed the Taiyo Yuden master. The best place to get authentic Taiyo Yuden media is from reputable online vendors like http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.rima.com http://www.meritline.com or http://www.newegg.com

i've always burned them at lowest speed, my current media is JVC...I guess i'll buy a better brand...even though I dont think this is the problem
I see a 50 pack of Verbatim brand dvd-rs at bestbuy website, an amazing deal for only $21...sold out right
have any of you had problems with jvc dvd-rs?, and has anyone had a simliar problem that I have with verbatim brand dvd-rs.

my tray fell off track and wouldnt open so i had to fix that, is it possible that its still wacked up a little and thats why it keeps saying invalid disc...even though it still reads the swapmagic cd.

If you don't try better media, you'll never know. You'd be amazed how often people tell me "it's not the media", when it is. I have a feeling you'll be on that list soon enough. Pick some Verb's and see if that resolves the problem.

I only use verbatim and dont have any problems pressed cds are easier to read than bunrt ones but if your tray is working I dont think that is your problem the cd is lifted up on the spindel off the tray so unless you can hear it hitting inside your ps2 you should be right
