i ripped this dvd and it is 7.3 or sumthin gb and i want to burn it into one disk.. but its too big how can i make it so i burn on the time not on the space.. like the dvd is 2 hours long and the disk type i have are 1-6 hours long. so how do i make it so i burn by the time not by the size

You are going to have to compress it to fit on a DVD5 with a proggy like DVD Shrink or similiar. There are a lot of proggys available to do this but DVD Shrink is free and does a pretty good job. There are some good guides in my sig. Learn with shrink and you can move up to some better/retail software later.
