Help needed with DV Gate Plus

I can't get my DV Gate Plus to recognize my .avi files. Error message says the file type is either unsupported or corrupted. The files play, so I don't think they're corrupted and the online help says it DV Gate Plus can work with .avi files. Has anyone else had this problem?
