I recently purchased a copy of Grandia III and made a backup to keep my orignal in mint-condition. Here is the problem, the Initial Opening cinema will not load, instead only a few seconds of it will play, and the scren will go black and go to the title screen to start your game. That didnt bother me, so i continued playing, after a few minutes theres another in game cut-scene, this one also just went for a few seconds and abruptly ended. Not being one to care so much since ill play it again, i continued on, and the problem went away, most scenes displayed fully. Until a few hours into the first disc when the game goes from a cut-scene to a cinema. Both loaded and played fully, but then after the cinema is over you are supposed to go back to the normal game and enter a town, instead, the screen just goes black and nothing happens. The game just freezes on a black screen, no sound no nothing. I have tried to play 3 or 4 more times in hopes that it would load, but i have had no luck. I have tried re-burning the iso with both dvd-decrypter and nero, also i have tried re-ripping the iso, and burning from the new rip. Still, i get the same problem. Any idea why these cutscenes and cinema's are cut short? or why the game freezes? Also, this is a 2 dvd game. Thats just the first one. who knowes what problems may arise on the second dvd. Somebody told me that perhaps the game was a dual layer dvd seperated and placed onto 2 dvd's for american realese, seeing as how, IGN stated that the game was one dvd, when after purchasing, i find it is 2...can anybody help me ?

What brand dvdr discs are you using?
How big is the game?
Swap magic or modchip?

I just Re-ripped and re-burned the Iso using some GQ 8x DVDr's with dvd-decrypter and it didnt work, so i tried Nero as well, still i get the same problem with the glitch. All my other PS2 games are loading and playing properly, so it has to be this game, i also just copied Tales of Legendia which works perfectly...

GQ discs are not any better than memorex. Some games are more laser intensive and require better discs.

I purchased some Varbatim DVD's. I am having the same problem. Seeing as how everything else i burn works perfectly ( As in The backup of "Black" i just got, it seems to me that the problem is with the actual game itself. Perhaps a form of encryption or copyright protection is hindering the proper backing up of this game. Im searching through threads looking for a program that will allow me to rip the dvd file by file and build the iso myself..perhaps then, the problem can be solved.

Wellllllll i spent most of the night finding all the necessary programs like cdvdgen apache2 etc. and proceeded with the rebuilding, the thing is, i didn't know that rebuilding makes the image smaller. What i want to do, is check and see the linking of files in the image, and if they ripped properly. I have ripped from the game disc repeatedly and got the same problem, using multiple media, ripping processes and burning processes. So i downloaded the ISO, and again, the same problem. So it HAS to be the game, there must be some form of protection or something, i am in need of anybody that is experienced with iso file systems and stuff to check the ripped iso and see if it differs somehow from the game disc or if it has some kind of protection. I've done just about all i can do, i have the orignal game so i dont care, but i would like to have the burn as well, so plz help if you can. thx so far. lets keep it goin'

MEMOREX is better than Verbatim!!!! Although Verbatim is still good...

Do not put down memorex...out of almost 600 DVD discs....not even one failed to burn right....as for other brands especially generic...that is a whole other story...

If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...

There is a thread with many disc scans that proves memorex is very poor media.

ive been browsing ps2nfo.com to see if there were other people as well having this problem copying grandia 3,and no luck there, although i have talked to a few people who are experiencing this problem online through other forums. we're all stumped, none of have any idea why this game wont work. But unlike them i have access to a valid copy so i can just play that one. but if anybody has any idea why this game wont work or even a theory, im all ears. Ill just quit wasting dvd's trying to copy the game right now until i learn the issue. thx for ur help sly, happy burning.

I thought Grandia III is 2 dvds? or a dual layer dvd? I may be wrong, but if it is a dual layer it definitely needs rebuilding, either to make it smaller and patched to fit on a DVD5 or separated to 2 dvds.

hey, did anyone get a 'back-up' of Grandia 3 to work properly? I have a internal mod-chip and usually am able to play 'back-up' copies without errors...(sometimes lags depending on the media and burn speed). However, an 'echelon' copy of Grandia 3 loads the "Playstation 2" screen (where it says "Playstation 2"), but that's it; it doesn't go any further. I haven't burned the 'B' disc yet because i'm afraid it will be another coaster.

No, it is not. I have a real copy, i have been playing it. It is a single DVD. And not dual layered. I rip it and it is 4.10gb, altghough....it IS dangerously close to being too large for a single layer write...Anyhow,Then burn with DVD decrypter and it works like shit. Same problem as the "backup's" people have been downloading. Really there seems to be know way around it, i guess this game needs some sort of specific fix. The only solution i haven't tried as of yet is placing the ISO on my PS2 Hard drive and booting it up with HD loader, because this could be a conflict with swap magic, a problem with the game itself..nobody knowes, and now that the game is losing popularity nobody really cares lol.

sry for the double post.

Apparently there are multi dvd versions and single dvd versions.
NTSC version seems to only be one DVD
But after my previous post i did a check and it seems PAL version has Two. this could also be part of the problem. Perhaps they compressed the game for NTSC version...
