DVD-ROM not reading Backup DVD's

All my drives on my computer are not reading backup dvd's but reading cd-r's im curious why this is. If someone can assist me please do. The original dvd's work but i dont know why this is doing this.

It sounds like either your backup media is either made by CMC or perhaps corrupted or damaged in some way.

How long ago did you make them?

It is not the discs, the discs work fine in my Dvd player and Ps2. It is not reading on the computer, on none of the drives. The media i am using is memorex, and tdk. Even the Cd-r's work on the computer but not the DVD-R, and the drives are multiformat

Well to begin with, memosux are not good media at all. I have a similar problem with my DVD-ROM drive, it won't read my backups, but the drive that you burned them with should definately read them.

I believe my problem is the firmware for my ROM drive, not anything that is wrong with the backups. I just can't be bothered looking for the new version. So long as they play in my standalones I am happy.

I am mad because I want to copy the backups and I am unable to do so because the drives arent reading the dvd's and I was wonderin is there nething that i should update or so that it would help my computer.

You should probably google your drive manufacturer and look for firmware upgrades.

I would imagine that it must be pretty rare that the drive, that burned the DVD won't read it.

Memorex is really bottom of the line media though. This could very well be a media problem. If I didn't have the same problem with my ROM drive (up to date firmware doesn't help) I would be completely questioning those CMC's.
