i am using clonedvd2(2882) with anydvd(5921). when it finished burning my computer would freeze (it said preparing to go into standby but nothing happened). the disc would be burned fine, but i would have to manually shut down and restart my computer. someone told me it could be a program interfering. well i tried it again and it got stuck on the buffering and writing borders part. the only programs i had running were norton internet security, spysubtract venus spytrap, desktop weather, and atomic clock cync.

sounds like a pc/software issue. close EVERY program running (norton etc) whilst you make a back up & see if it still freezes. if it does try uninstalling AnyDVD & clone dvd & reinstall. if it doesnt freeze with all other programs closed then turn them back on one by one until you find the one that is freezing the pc. then uninstall & reinstall that program

keifujo,
I know what the problem is. CloneDVD, by default, plays a little "I'm finished" music-sound.wav at the end of the "buffering and writing borders" stage of the backup process. Then the burner's media-disk tray is supposed to eject.

With certain sound cards or multimedia hard or soft configurations, there is a conflict (chipset, driver or .dll, I guess) that freezes this final ejection. This conflict is rare and Elby has not isolated it yet in order to resolve the issue. And you are correct that your backup is indeed finished and playable ... but the eject stage freezes. Elby has just recently become aware of your somewhat uncommon issue and the temporary fix has not yet been reported on this AD forum.

The solution, for the moment, is to go into CloneDVD's "Preferences" and in the top drop-down sound selection menu entitled "Successful Completion Of Processing Operations" clear the "success.wav" file from the box. Just delete it using the backspace key on your keyboard. Don't worry about the .wav files in the other two drop-down sound selection menu's because they don't cause any problems.

Please post back if this resolves the issue so that other AD members can find the resolution on record when they use the AD "Search" feature.

BTW: If you are still using the versions of CloneDVD and AnyDVD that you named in your "22. February 2006 @ 10:04" posting, there are new updates waiting for you to download.

Best regards,
Whisperer

PS: I'm not sure of your level of expertise, but are you using a plug-in, PCI-slot type sound card or are you using sound output from "on-board" motherboard-based sound or multimedia sockets? In either instance, could you please name the brand names and model numbers of the motherboard or card? Along with any chipset or bios rev.s or driver versions etc. that you are able or willing to discern. What sound/multimedia software are you using? Creative Labs or other? Do you have iTunes on your system? Your answers may be of benefit to you and others by helping Elby to troubleshoot and isolate the issue. If you are not experienced enough to answer this stuff, don't fret, I'm just taking a shot at finding the conflict by asking you. Thank you.

Cheap media often fails at the outer edges of the disk. DVD disks are writen from the center and finish at the outside edge so media might be the issue. What brand and type of blank media are you using?

clonedvd was causing problems with my other burning program sonic, even if they weren't running at the same time. could sonic be causing this problem since i haven't uninstalled it yet?

Yes, even if a program isn't running it still can cause conflicts. Roxio and Nero don't play well together for example. Also even after you uninstall, you may want to see if there is a clean tool for Sonic that completely removes it (if you choose to go that route).
