I'm using virtualdub 1.6.1 to capture tv to xvid format and I was wondering if someone can help me choose which of the filters to use with vdub to get a smoother and clearer picture.

smoother
deinterlacing
blur
etc

also could you post a recommended setting of each of the filters.

Sharpness 20.
Levels (play with the settings to get the contrast you like/looks best on your TV).
HSV to reduce the washed out whites.

Black holes are where God divided by zero...

Great, thanks! I'll try that when I get home.

What about a filter or filters to get rid of those lines and dot. Its not a lot of them but if you look closely you can see them.

You would get Much better quality if you captured to AVI useing the "HUFFYUV" codec and then add your filters and encode to XviD because Captureing directly to XviD will not Produce the best quality because the format is Extremely compressed and to add the filters means that you will loose even more quality because the File has to be re-encoded to add the Filters so you could end up with a file that looks worse than the original capture but If you Capture to HUFFYUV which is a "Lossless" codec and then add the Filters while encodeing to XviD you will end up with much better results than if you were to recompress to XviD multiple times.....

Cheers
