Hello all,

I just had a quick question about the durability of sony's dvd-rs made in taiwan.

I've done a search on this forum, and I read very deeply into the "why not to buy bad discs thread". So far I've seen that these particular discs burn well. But I can't seem to find any information on how they hold up over time. ( ie. do they get acceptable burn scores 8 to 9 months from now.)

Thanks in advance.

PS. Yes I know I can order anything online for much cheaper. These particular discs seem to be the most highly rated of the media sold in my local area, and I really would like the option of buying domestically.

@pooh5, I guess it comes down to preference, In my experience (2yrs)with SONY 8x -R made in both MIT & MIJ (I currently have over 750 SONY-R 8X Blanks)There is no difference in play back ability or quality. They all look alike. A SONY -R 8x disk that codes out as Tayo Looks and plays just like a MIT SONY -R 8x blank. SONY makes a promise of quality on every package MIT or MIJ. There seems to be fan club like existence here at the afterdawn forum (Not to be taken the wrong way, No offense No Flames:P)as it relates to Tayo-Yuden. Perhaps it's sponsorship of some sort. I believe they make a good product but I would say no better than any other "A" grade dvd disc i.e. Verbatim also MIT made. I say this and ask you trust that with regards to DVD disc, It's just brand name chasing.

Tayo is hard to find, meaning they are not sold in local retail stores but can be had through wholesale retailers in bulk only in NY (China Town) where I am. SONY as whole is an excellent dvd media and so are the others most mentioned. It's been the most reliable for me right along with Verbatim 8x -R. I have not had good luck with the +R SONY/Tayo makes. I have a new PC less than 8months old, so I don't know why? You can find great deals on TAYO and other preferred hard to find blank disc online. It's a matter of choice, but I ask that you not be deterred by where SONY media is made. If it's SONY -R 8x on sale "Get It".:P

Thanks so much N2DVD,

I was kind of worried as my local choices are very sparce, and I didn't want to continue shuffling thru discs like some street hermit for the rest of my days. ( Some genius bought all the Sony MIJ's left in my area, not exaggerating.)

Sadly, I've learned to be a little apprehensive about media. I've only had been burning DVD's for less than a month. And a large number of discs from my first pack "coastered" on me. They were Maxell -Rs MIT (RitekG05). I switched to sony mij after some investigating online and haven't failed yet. Good to know I can keep on using them.
However, I pledge no loyalty to nothing.

THANKS

PS. I use a Panasonic EH50 and my brothers ATAPI 8x PC burner ( I burn with DVDdecrypter at 4x).

Sorry to hear your having trouble with the Sony +Rs. In desperation I bought a small pack (MIJ's as well). While I haven't had any trouble burning to them, my brothers burner can never rip from them once their burned to. It can with the -Rs MIJs.
