I purchased a PS2 last year, around Feb 2005, but never got around to opening it until two weeks ago. The version is a V12. I had researched on the afterdawn forums on how to setup Swap Magic, and came to the conclusion that many online tools for Swap Magic being sold for the Slimline were just a waste of money. As such, I successfully got Swap Magic 3.6 to work with it using instuctions found here:
However, today I found out from numerous sources that the V12 laser is set in a time bomb, and will die eventually for sure. As such, I am looking to exchange my PS2 for a newer one (V13 or V14). Unfortunately, I noticed that some newer version of the slimline has a metal block:
This makes it seem that the method I used to set up Swap Magic (with a cut up straw) will not work for this metal blocked PS2.
Questions:
1) Which version slimline has this metal block?
2) If only V14 has this metal block, is it possible to find V13s in retailers like Costco?
3) If I end up getting a PS2 with this metal block, are there any successful home made methods I could use to press the sensor where the metal block is without opening my PS2 or placing things inside it? For example, I used a straw with my V12 and it worked better than the cheap plastic tools people spent buying online.
4) If there are no homebrew methods, are there any worthy tools sold online that would be good for setting up Swap Magic with the newly metal blocked PS2?

The V12 platnums and from then on had the extra metal block there are only two tools I know to over come this one is magic key the other called twist tool I've used magic key on a couple of occasions but the tool that goes near the hinge is a bitch to get right usually needs a bit of rebending and lots of trial and error twist tool seems to be only available in europe
slimline pro is another tool but for these ps2's you need to bend the plate up therefore possibly voiding you warranty

The Slimtool MK2 works on the V13 and V14 console, which is also known as the Magic Keys 2.

Also, i have had a V12 for yonks ( i use swap magic and slimtool ) and the laser has never given me any probs.
i know the mk2 and slimtool dont void your warranty.
when my slimline laser does give up the ghost i'm just going to replace it with another. :)
