Hey guys, I was talking to a friend of mine who works at a Blockbuster video. She said that they are checking the DVD for some line that apparently shows up on the disk that is supposed to be evidence that the disk has been burned/copied. This didn't make any sense to me when I heard it so I thought I would throw it out there and see if anyone else heard of something similar. Not really an issue for me I was just curious.

What a good friend! No there is no line that appears on the disc. There have been quite a few threads around aD about these rumors - some are quite funny! Can't find one right now though.
But remember copying rentals is illegal and also against aD rules.
Maybe your friend is just trying to scare people.

tha can't be rite. because u dont burn the disk you're taking back to blockbuster now do you. When you are making a BACK UP of a dvd that YOU OWN (have bought, not rented) you put it into the dvd drive of your comp an all it does is read the disc the same way as your dvd palyer does so this seems to be yet another rumour trying to scare people but if you want the movie so bad after u've watched it when you've rented then you should go buy it =) these stories are really quite amusing

You beat me to it. Reminds me of the of the "red disc" post. @Tyman4325 Oh and by the way maybe your friend is refering to the line showing up because the disc spins faster when you rip it. Shhh don't tell anybody else, I don't think they've come up with a way yettt that they can burn you for burning them.

I know the forum rules. I am not burning rented movies. I was just curious. It sounded funny when I first heard it, but you never know. I figured I would thow it out there.

Welcome to Afterdawn. Tell your friend from BBV that you just view the videos you rent. That if someone did copy a rented DVD, the store would have absolutely no way of knowing. Glad you figured that out for yourself. To bad this thread could have been another classic.
