ok I installed a mars pro 815 modchip and the laser fix, after putting it all back together when I turn the power on the laser moves to the spinner and makes an awful noise and that's it the laser hardly flashes red. Could this mean the laser is bad or the mod chip? The laser worked before I installed the mod chip. Oh when I installed the chip I used the 30g wire on the right points and on the other points it said to use 22g wire I used a smaller wire would that have an effect on anything? thanks!

if disc is not spinning, you probably fried the resistors that you soldered the fix to, check them and see if they are reading the correct value

For what I've told you does this sound like it anything to do with the laser at all. It's like everything worked before we installed the 2 chips.

I suggest getting a 15W soldering iron, no-corrosive flux, de-solder braid, and a 0.1mm iron tip. As well as 30 AWG kynar wire and 22 AWG wire for the ground and 3v3 connections.
Thats if you havent fried something on the board already,
You would have been better off following the instructions.
good luck and welcome to the forums

now I used 30g wire but did not use 22g wire is that a big problem I used alittle smaller then 22 but bigger then 30g wire. And what if I did fry something on the board will I have to replace the whole board?

you need to get a volt meter from radio shack to check the resistor values.

ok can I just desolder the chip and resolder it back if it was the wrong way and you said I may have to replace the resistors, how do you replace them or do you have to replace the whole chip? And when installing my mars pro chip when it to specifically use 22g wire I used a little smaller would that be a problem too or not?

ok i'm looking at the chip soldered and it looks to me that the groundis not soldered on all the way like just the upper right corner could that be the problem or should i just desolder the whole chip and start over?

ok to me it looks like the ground isn't soldered on all the way. I didn't know if that would be the problem or not. On v12 if I decided to replace the eye and not install the fix again would I still have problems with the eye or should I go ahead and solder the eye back in?

ok I got that part now for sure, if the fix chip's ground is just off set by maybe 1/16 of an inch can I just add more solder to it or should I desolder the whole chip and resolder it back? Now when i resolder the fix back in on the ground should I slide the chip as far as I can to the ground before I solder it?

ok here's what I think, before I installed the mars pro modchip and the laser fix everything was going great. Now since I installed them when I turn the ps2 on (v12) the laser will go to the disc spinner and make a weird noise for about 3 to 5 sec. but to me It seems like it's the orangish rod to the right that makes the laser move. Does anyone that the same or should I just desolder the fix and see what happens then possibly the modchip? Maybe after I desolder both chips I should just stick with the swap magic?
