VIDEO DUBBING USING CANON MV850i

Hi All. I recently bought a Canon MV850i MiniDV with the intention of using it primarily to download video images to my PC and then editing them and burning them to DVD. Problem is, it doesn't seem to want to work. I up-graded to the 850i from the 600i because it had some extra features. The 600i simply plugged into the MoveMaker programme and away it went, but the 850i doesn't appear to enjoy such simple activation, although the manual says it does. When I plug the 850i into MovieMaker, it gives me a message that the video device can't be found. Anyone out there got any clues?
